Hetalia - Civil Warfare by Raax-theIceWarrior Hetalia - Civil Warfare by Raax-theIceWarrior
I've always wondered how the Civil wars work in the Hetalia universe. Most people seem to depict it as there being two of each character and them fighting amongst themselves. I like to imagine it as if they just lock themselves up in their rooms and go about breaking all their own stuff. It would be the Hetalia version of going through puberty. (apart from with Spain)

Canada could have a civil war too if he wanted to.

I changed Confederate-Americas dialogue so he'd sound a bit more like Eric Cartman. (I drew this comic imediately after watching a South Park episode where Cartman gets a bunch of drunk Civil War reanactionists to take over the United States, that made up most of my reference for the uniforms)

EDIT: It seems I accidently deleted some of the blue from America's door flag. It's fixed now :)

Actually, the American Civil War wasn't really about slavery.  It was about states seceding from the Union, with the Union saying, "You can't do that!"

The War of 1812 was very divisive for the USA as well.  In fact the northeastern states of the USA threatened to secede over it because it hurt their trading alliances with Britain, but ultimately they didn't carry out their threat.

True, but the reason why they seceded was mainly because of the issue of slavery.

I've actually already heard that statement a lot, I think scrolling through the comments you would have seen quite a few people have already said this to me. Being from England I don;t know much about American history and I mostly did make it as a joke.

However, I'm actually now starting to see it's a bit of a shame people are saying that war wasn't about slavery, like, isn't it good to say the war was fighting against such a horrible thing? Even if it might have started over a different reason it definitely became a factor (Idk it's mostly just this seems to be such a common thing people tell me)

But I didn't know that about the War of 1812, that's an interesting thing to hear (I guess it's makes sense England would be annoyed seeing that war was with Canada, and England probably would have been angry about their colonies being attacked).

I am from the South and I grew up with the statement that it wasn't about slavery, but if you look into the period.  It pretty much was about Slave Owners not wanting to go broke by the American Government taking those slaves away from them and them losing their investment in them.  They hired orators and legal types to argue that the government didn't have the right to free the slaves, as the American Federal Government was largely hands off.  However they had already let the camel into the tent by having the Government forcibly move the Cherokee out of Alabama so that Slave Holders could take their land and they also had the Government declare war on Mexico because they wanted more slave states south of the Mason-Dixon line.  So when it came time for the government to be turned on them, suddenly they were all shouting States Rights, States Rights!

Wow!! Your work with markers (I'm guessing that's what you used) and shading is really good! I find this concept of the Hetalia characters going through their 'Civil War phase' and locking them in their room very amusing. I like to believe that they fight their 2p in a sense and whichever side would make more sense to the character would be the side they were on. Like in this, Allen, or 2p! America would be on the Confederate side while Alfred would be on the Union.

Thank you very much. I did do this with markers yes, and thank you  very much. I'm glad that it came out really well.
Actually you're right, the 2Players could work really well as depictions of countries internal conflicts. 2PAmerica could work really well for that.

Yes, I have started getting more comments from people more informed telling me about how the war started (admittedly I'm not an expert on it and I did this as a silly joke), but it has been nice to get more indepth history from people that actually do know properly about the war.

Frankly, the American Civil War was fought over more than the national institution of slavery, it was more of a war between the Republican and Democratic Parties throughout a series of radical political ideologies amidst the political party switch between Conservatism and Liberalism where the Republican Party was originally a Left-Wing institution practicing Liberalism which switched to a Right-Wing stance in politics in the promotion of Conservatism. Likewise with the Democratic Party, it was originally Right-Wing practicing the institution of Conservatism. With this taking place along with other national problems like the separation of the economy between an industrial north and an agrarian south, and the disputes between politicians and the people in the founding of new states west of the Mississippi River on whether or not they should be slave states. In all, it was as it has been titled as, the War of the Parties.

Yes, admittedly the war was more complex than I've drawn in a very short comic. But thank you for some of the details on the war. I didn't know those before.
(Hah. I never knew the Republican's used to be left-wing. how times change...)

(There is a lot of hidden details to the conflict of the War for Southern Independence that the United States government doesn't allow in the school boards.)

many people here debate if slavery was the cause of the war. (There were other economic factors involved.) Most who side with the South debate that it was about state's rights, not slavery.

Yes, since posting this comic I have had a fair few comments informing me about how the war actually started (admittedly it's not something I'm an expert on and I did this as silly fun). It's interesting to get the proper history since there seem to be people who know their stuff.

And the reason they fought for state's rights was to keep slavery.
That's what my school says but it wouldn't be the first time they lied.

There might be /some/ truth to that, but if I remember correctly, Lincoln told them they could keep their slaves if they stayed in the Union. I think they were also paying a higher tax than the North.

Then again, it probably depends on who you ask. Northern citizens would probably say something different than northern politicians.
