aaaa u rite
However, most art treachery tell you not to draw in an anime form simply so that you could learn realism, and in that way, you would be able to carry out your own style once you leave the class! Art Class is more of a way to teach you the basics such as shading, lighting, some anatomy, and drawing from real life. Not to ruin the show or anything! But one of my favorite teachers IS my art teacher and he talked to the class about this stereotype art teachers seem to have!
However, I do agree with everything else. Art is meant to allow you to express yourself. Wether that's through creepiness or cuteness, gay or not, whatever you want to draw, go for it! Art is supposed to allow freedom to express yourself, not listen to and abide what the others say!
I think this should especially apply to young artists as well, since they are more influenced at a young age!
Aaaa sorry for the long rant! I very much like this post though and just wanted to give my thoughts aaaaaaaa ❤️

I am aware of all this and it is indeed very important. However, I'll break this down into some points for you.
1. Our teachers doesn't teach us realism, shading, lightning, or anatomy. Nothing. Our teachers tell us to draw a thing and if we don't perform it well they will criticize us for it, without teaching us anything to begin with. We don't have life drawing classes or have even been advised to do so, and they have no interest in what we want to learn. We are just supposed to know it at once without being taught.
2. I know how to draw realistically. I study photos and life drawing outside of classes, because I have a huge interest to learn. However, I find that drawing stylized artwork is a lot more fun and enjoyable.
3. My teacher criticised me for my doodles that I draw in my spare time, and tell me he doesn't like that I draw "anime", which in my opinion is a shitty claim to make. Firstly to assume that all stylized artwork is anime, and that anime is a bad style to have. His opinion is subjective and doesn't matter to me at all. It's discouraging and can be especially hurtful to young artists, since our teachers dont even offer guidance to be better artists. We are just supposed to be good immediately.
4. Im the ONLY one in my class that is being criticised for drawing "anime". I don't even watch anime. I am inspired by artists who are inspired by anime tho, so there's obviously elements of it in my art, but not anime specifically. My classmates draw art that is partly to hugely inspired by anime and manga, but they haven't gotten any criticism for it. Which is odd.
5. Art is supposed to be fun. There's a HUGE craze about that you need to improve all the time and be better and all the mistakes you make must be eradicated. Art is supposed to be fun. If you don't enjoy creating art and only do it to constantly improve, then what's the point.

Point being, my art teachers opinion about what i should and shouldn't do doesn't mean shit to me. Im glad you have a good teacher tho.
Sorry for the long rant as well, but i'm aware of all those things but they rly just dont apply to my status rly either. What I meant was that I have things I enjoy, like my art style and drawing girls and flowers example, and if ppl want to see something else, then they can do it themselves. I'm not gonna go out of my way to create something else just to please others!

Thank u for contributing ur thoughts, you're correct abt them!

Aaaa yes i agree woth you completely!! However, it's really upsetting to hear that you have a bad teacher for art class.. but what really gets me happy and inspired is that you are working past all the problems your art teacher has given you, and instead decided to pursue what you really like to do! That's pretty much the wall every artist must break at some point, where they recognise the true meaning behind making their own art! Doing it for themselves.
I feel like your art teacher is honestly not qualified to be teaching lmao and i think you've developed your skills just perfectly without them. So kudos to you!!
It's hard to learn and develop your own style so its really impressive and again, really inspiring to see a really talented artist improve so much without the help from teachers!!
Now, please don't think my previous comment was going against or bantering on anything your saying, because I do believe that not a lot of art instructors really help some of the time.
Aaaaa and I like to hear your thoughts so I dont mind!!
