Very long ago I made a journal about myself having the same face syndrome, saying that I aknowledge that I have it and that I want to move past it, and asked my watchers if they had also come across it, since it seems to be such a common thing for artists at some point in life.

Here's the journal if anyone of you are curious about it!:
◊ Same face CALL OUT !!!!! (me) ◊

Today, I decided to look back and look how far I've come concerning this problem! Mostly for my own sanity and confidence, but also because this is something I want to share with you guys, idk if you know but you guys are a big part of my progress forward!

For those who don't know, this is what my faces used to look like:

Overall similarities are the face shape that's pretty much exactly the same on all of them, same straight jaw and nose, same pointy chin, same eye-shape and haircuts.
1st one is Manu. the 2 following images are Guillermo. 4th picture is Cas. 5th a character I never draw anymore, 6th is Zan and last one is Emmet.
I was crushed and sad over the fact that the similarities were so many and that my characters were so hard to tell apart, I was feeling very sad and lost a lot of confidence in myself as an artist with this problem.

I want the people looking at my art to be able to see parts of themselves in the art I make, I want to be able to draw diverse characters with diverse personalities that others can relate to and who look like them. That was, and is still today, and will continue to be my goal.

After making the first journal concerning this, I immediately started to do my best to push the faces I drew.

Drawing people side by side and doing my best in finding changes to make to push them apart from looking alike did make me improve a lot over time! And I think it shows in my art that I started to ENJOY making art a lot more! Might just be me, but I see more love as time goes on! Gaining confidence slowly after seeing progress after trying so so hard to change and reach my goal.

Today, the faces I draw look like this:

Idk if it's considered bad or something, but I'll admit that i am PROUD of the progress I have made since I made the first journal of mine! I'm proud of myself for having my bad habits of taking the easy path broken, and for achieving more varying and interesting characters and people with a sense of diversity in looks, expressions and personality. My job isn't done at all, I have a long way to go before I can consider myself PLEASED, but I'm gonna allow myself to be proud of the progress I've made!

Things I need to focus on in the future is lips, headshapes, NOT MAKING ALL MY CHARACTERS HAVING BLACK HAIR, IT'S JUST BEAUTIFUL OKI JHKGJFHKJL,
and most of all body types

Drawing chubby characters is something I really want to do, I am myself pretty chubby and I do have some struggles with appreciating myself for how I look on many aspects. I want to draw the things I'm insecure about. I don't want anyone to think I avoid drawing chubby people because of a dislike for fat bodies, it's more about my dislike for myself and my own body. I think the same thing is to say about face shapes, I'm very insecure and self aware about how my face looks... But when I see other people I just think they're beautiful, but I don't see myself the same way. Most of my characters are extensions of myself in some way as well, so it makes it even harder for me...

I'm doing my best to work against these feelings as well! I made my character Estelle chubby after popular demand!

I tend to most of all draw soft bodies with little muscle mass, but nowhere near the chubby side. I sometimes draw more "muscular" bodies, but god do they terrify me... I'll practice those too..... u_u

When I ask people what I should improve, most of them tell me I should draw more diverse faces and bodies. And I completely agree!
And I hope you guys agree when I say that I've improved! salmon heart bullet

Thank you for reading this journal, it's a bit ranty but I felt like it's time I talk about this again!
