An Old Broad (and her sister) by quintmckown An Old Broad (and her sister) by quintmckown
A 1948 Dodge four-door sedan parked next to a '48 Dodge 2-door coupe. Both are for sale, if you're willing to meet the price. Taken 4/30/2013 on the Camas Prairie, Sanders County, Montana.

Wow! Suicide doors! Those are rare to find in any condition.

I don't think they did for more than that year. Sense this is a '48, it likely was a design hold over from before the war. I know Dodge Brothers did more war production than cars from '40 to '46.

Until I saw her, I had no idea that Dodge ever made a car with suicide doors.

The '48 was a continuation of the basic design first introduced in 1940. And you're right, like most American car makers, Dodge concentrated on war production between 1942 and 1945. There's a good web site describing the year by year evolution of this line: [link]

It would be nice to restore...but the last thing I need is a new hobby.

I hear you. I'm trying to convince myself that having three collectables in the drive way--all of which need some work--is justified.

Well the price explains why they haven't turned up on Rusty Ironmongers! Egad! :jawdrop:

I was considering adding the pics I have of these two to Mark's page, just for grins and giggles.

Damn, they look cool, but the rear axel of the 4 door is kind of fucked up.
I bet it aint cheap to fix it...

I talked to the owner. She's not cheap to buy, either. But she could be a real beauty if someone had the wherewithall to restore her.

What would the price be?

I think he said $1500 for the four-door by itself. Note that the engine isn't working on it either. $2500 to buy both, and the owner said that the 2-door was drivable when he parked it. I have no idea how long ago that was.

Wow.
Just to get the engine to work, with proper engine parts, would cost enough to make someone's hair curl!

That was what I thought. So I thanked him for his time, took my pictures, and left.

I still can't help but feel sad for those vehicles...
