from all the holy books... why the Bible?
garlan4 Featured By Owner Dec 15, 2017
The only answer for this question is: Why not ?
Okashy Featured By Owner Edited Dec 15, 2017  Professional General Artist
This is not the answear.
I believe that true artist should know his reasons and speak for himself.
Origianlusername Featured By Owner Dec 15, 2017  Hobbyist General Artist
1. A "true artist" lets their art speak for its self and never takes the time to explain it.
2. The artist owes neither you or anyone else an explanation for any part of his art.
3. You totally missed the point garlan4 was trying to make, which was to say there is no need to question this. His question of why not the bible is just as relevant as your question of "why the bible?" Your question is thus pointless.

He was trying to show you logical thinking, so if we were to run this back to the beginning and the artist chose the Quran to place there, would your question then be "why the Quran?"

If that would have been your question, then you can see the pointless nature of the question, thus why the bible...why not the bible? The Bible gets across the point the artist was trying to make. It matters very, very little what religious text he used, so little it is not worth questioning...and it would appear that the use of any holy book in that position would have sparked the same conversation. You see the pointless and cyclical nature?

If the artist had used the Quran and you did not ask the question "why the Quran?" Then one would question why you would question the use of the bible and not another holy book.

4. The true answer is probably incredibly benign in that the artist comes from a white European background heavily steeped in catholicism, as a religion he knows and has had experience with it is more likely to resonate with him in his art. Most artist use personal experience when producing ideas.

This artist has tackled a lot of controversial subjects across a body of work and seems very socialist and activist in their expression of feelings about the world. Many of them have been anti religious, but he is not afraid to take on cultures and ideals.

5. Why pink striped wall paper? Why mostly white women? Why skulls?

6. And perhaps the most important point I can make which is why I left it to the top left hand side of the image there is a girl writing something on the wall...maybe you should take the time to read it.

I asked the artist but received the answear from other person so I answeared that person 'true artist should speak for himself'. He don't need lawyers just like you and the others are trying to be.

I believe my question is not pointless. I think there must be some serious reason behind this - why the people have the easiness of compiling the Bible / Christian symbols with anything. I'm just curious why this is so cool nowdays and - on the other hand - why the people has a big resistance to doing the same stuff with other extermist religions.
So I'm almost sure that the artist would never use Quran in this place (but still- I like to ask questions, because "why not?" ^_^ ) I have feeling that nowdays it's better to be so cool and so artistic with
Christian Bible + vagina than get into serious troubles with Quran  + vagina. Maybe political correctness does not recognize equality and democracy? ; )
Anyway I'm curious what the artist would have to say about it.

6. yes I readed this before I wrote anything... but hey... lol...  like I said I like to ask questions. Why this text on the wall has to be beyond me and my inteligence? Comment option is somehow... not turned off btw ; )
But - I have to admit - this is very smart; this text is trying to be part of the piece and block uncomfortable questions, and if anyone will dare to ask then will will look like a fool, because "hey... the text on the wall, the artist says so... it's part of masterpiece you fool, so your act is prohibited you fool..."

I feel a debate here is pointless but I'll respond to this none the less, because sometimes I just can't stop myself.

I am not trying to be a lawyer and the artist and I are not best friends, so I am not even really defending him. I am defending what he represents and what he does.

My point artist has to speak at all. He posted a picture and then f***ed off to live his life. He owes you nothing, no explanation, none of his time. He doesn't need to justify his decisions to you or to anyone. A true artist lets their work speak for its self, you don't like it, don't look at it.

Do you go to art galleries and see paintings you don't like and/or don't understand and demand to speak to the artist so you can quiz them on everything?

Though the internet gives you this ability it doesn't mean the artist has to give you even a milliseconds thought. You say the comments are not turned off, this allows you to make a comment, which you have done, it allows me to make a comment which I have done. We have both expressed our opinions, the thing is the artist doesn't have to bother reading any of this crap and neither should he.

You missed the point of what I was saying or have purposely ignored it in order to continue you mantra. Catholicism is the largest and widest spread religion across the world (thanks to some shitty actions many years ago) and thus there are a large number of people affected or that have interacted with "the bible" so a lot of white people from Christian countries will know and understand how they feel about Catholicism but they have 0 interest in the Quran as they have never read it or understand the cultures that are mostly associated with it.

You are reading far too much in to a nonsense point and making something of nothing. Perhaps you should go find some artists from a Muslim or Islam faith background and see if they use the Quran in their work.

People are not scared to use any other religion or holy book, they simply are ignorant of it and thus making a comment about it would be an ignorant comment. This artist has no idea how the Quran feels about vagina or women or anything, only the same bullshit everyone else is fed through the media and that is not an astute way to go around in life. Using second hand knowledge from an incredibly untrustworthy source.

You seem to have an agenda or a desire to spark an argument about religion as you totally misunderstand what Political Correctness is or equality and democracy. I can say fuck the holy bible and say nothing about the Quran. That has nothing to do with equality or democracy and/or political correctness. If I wanted to I could say fuck the Quran and say nothing about the Bible, again this has nothing to do with any of those things.

Humans are petty little things with their own hang ups, their own beliefs, their own ideals and they seem to want to press them on to other people. So basically Fuck everyone and everything! 100% fairness for you.

I could go on picking through your comment but as I say seems a waste of both our time as you have your opinion and agenda and refuse to look at this logically or objectively. Neither do you seem to have studied psychology, philosophy or sociology, or understand ideas like personal experience bias or limited field experience. Perhaps you should maybe take some time to go to actual art galleries, travel the world, see art and culture in other places and realise that artists all over that have a message to share, use whatever is common to them and their audience.

Perhaps art with a message or an ideal is just not for you, maybe just go look at the pretty pictures of trees or something?

I genuinely wish you the best, I hope you can find peace with the world at some point. I just wouldn't hold your breath for an answer from the artist, because he really doesn't have to give you one, or even acknowledge you even exist.

I just wouldn't concern yourself with why people are using the Bible and not the Quran as it is of very little importance in the world. Think about it logically, lets pretend the artist replies to you and says "I didn't use the Quran because I am scared." what does that prove? What does that get you? Some weird satisfaction you were right? Does it fuel your sense of injustice in the world?

The comments section really just should be for you to comment on the art...shit like "nice job" "I like this" "Wow your style is cool" or if you want to be critical..."Your perspective is a bit off" "Your colour choices seem off if you have studied colour theory" and so on. Pseudo intellectual debates about religion and politics are worthless and pointless to the whole of mankind. They do not better us or further us in any manner, it is simple bickering for the sake of someone having an opinion and wanting to force it on everyone.

P.S take some time to go through the artist's gallery in full you will see he has made social comments about extremists of the Muslim faith, though not directly referenced the Quran.
