Desire

Over at ConceptArt.org, they're running their CHOW challenge, and the task was to redesign one of Gaiman's Endless. I wish I were more Gaiman-literate, but something about Desire really spoke to me. I KNEW it'd be the perfect foil for a Klimt-ish treatment, and I'm really tickled by the way this turned out, especially since it was squeezed into my already-packed schedule. If you wanna catch all the kick-ass entries (and/or vote in the poll), clicketh here: [link]

(Many thanks to ~Enchantedgal-Stock and ~alta-photopraphy for some of the goldwork.)

You really got its personality down!

Damn, Desire's looking very androgynous. :) Great job. I love the halo thing behind it's head! (I'm not religious but I love religious and symbolism art. Lolz)

Thanks! I actually know very little about the series so this was really and truly my own interpretation. And I kinda love Klimt so that's where the halo-ish thing came from. :XD:
Yeah, Desire is male or female, depending on what you desire. I think this is great, although for me desire would be female. But you really got the character.

I've always wanted to see a version of Desire that isn't just a Nagel rip-off... :D Your pic is awesome!

Are you ever doing any more Endless? pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease

Honestly, I don't know much about the series; I did this portrait for a challenge. So I'm not sure I'll have the inclination to explore it further.

Well, looking at your profile I'g guessing you like fantasy. If so, I strongly suspect that you will be pretty impressed with Sandman...

Hmmmmm. May I take it that you would not find it impolite of me to have a go at one of the Endless "in the style of" as you have?

EXQUISITE!! Desire via Klimt is a wondrous *masterstroke* - and you've got the gender ambiguity absolutely spot on, Desire is BOTH masculine and feminine - I can make my brain see a very definite female character and ALSO see a very definite male character in this, like those duck/rabbit optical illusions - so many people, even in the comics, couldn't quite get it and he/she sometimes ended up looking bland and slightly sexless and hermaphroditic but this is a PERFECT RENDITION of Desire! Desire was always one of my favourite characters...

Beautiful!

You're WAY too kind! :XD:

You've given me ideas.

Delirium a la Andy Warhol?

Despair - Francis Bacon!

Death - slap bang in the middle of a Renoir pastiche!

Delight - Alphonse Mucha - no contest!

Dream - Edvard Munch??? or something more obvious like Salvador Dali?

Destiny - in the style of an Escher woodcut with the paths of his garden all overlapping and going in weird directions?

Destruction - Van Gogh. I have decided. Van Gogh...

Has a very Indian flavor to it :D The Type in the background is a great style!

This is really great, I'm a huge Gaiman fan, and Sandman can get confusing...if you want to read them you should look Sandman up on wikipedia to get the order of the books and it tell you which are in which versions, since there's like three of four sets that group the different issues together in different ways, besides the individual ones by themselves, but yeah they can get really expensive unless you buy used copies on amazon or something....okay this got really long all of a sudden, I'll shut up now...

Thanks! I hope to getting around to reading it this summer! I'll take that advice...

You're welcome, you're stuff is awesome, and Sandman is great so you should definitely check it out if you can...the other thing I forgot to mention is to check your library for it and then you won't have to pay to read it at all :)
