I don't know. I just start drawing... then I forget about the time, draw for hours and suddenly it's 5 in the morning... So usually I need 3 days for a drawing.
How? I use a combination: grid, measurements, turning the drawing + reference upside down to find mistakes easier and so on. See FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions for my technique (stepy by step tutorials). I hope this helps a bit!
