Thranduil (drawing)

Badge Awards

Mixed media drawing (colored pencil, marker, gel pen) of Thranduil (with fabulous hair)! :D I'm very happy with the result!
When I saw the movie last week in cinema he became one of my favourite characters.

Reference was a production still of Lee Pace as Thranduil from the movie "The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies" (2014).

Paper DIN A4 (size of the drawing = 15,7cm x 21cm) 190g/m²; Faber-Castell Polychromos artists' colour pencils, Copic Ciao marker, uni-ball Signo pigment ink um-153 white, Copic Multiliner SP 0.03, Faber-Castell pencil HB; time: >20h

(I saved this to my favorites so long ago, and have tried to write this many a time. but just been lost for words. So here's my input!)

It feels like a moment taken out of a story. Like he commissioned his portrait of himself (to hang where? I have no idea. lol).  It captures him perfectly.

I am still MIND BLOWN you used GEL PENS for this art piece. It looks like you did a digital art piece, but in reality it was in tranditonal means. It's amazing. (By the way do you do comissions?)

I keep being visually drawn to the filligree on the armor. The way the snow falls around his head. His loose strands of hair ruffled by a wind. This is beatuifully done. Each time I return to this piece, I find some other small detail to marvel at.

I really feel that icy distance Tranduil keeps from others. The semi-haudy wall he keeps up. He also captures the attentnion with his eyes. He can see into your soul.

My breath is taken away each time I look at this piece. I immediately had a crush on Trhanduil when the film came out. I love how this feels like a midevial portrait.

Love love love this !    Hard to fathom it’s a drawing not a photo.  You are so talented.   Plus Thranduil must have been a dream to draw.
