Aurora drawing

Another traditional drawing experiment for a change (this time beautiful nothern lights / aurora borealis). At first I wanted to paint this reference with oil paint, but then I decided to try it with my mixed media technique (maker + colored pencil). I wanted to practice green effect likes this anyway. ;)
It could be a bit smoother, but I didn't want to invest more time in this drawing and the paper was probably a bit too grainy as well (+ my scanner always makes everything even more grainier :grump:)...

Reference photo by Trichardsen : fav.me/d75cvqt Thanks again!

Paper DIN A4 190g/m² (size of the drawing = 24,8cm x 15,2cm); Faber-Castell Polychromos artists' colour pencils, Copic Ciao and Sketch marker, uni-ball Signo pigment ink um-153 white, Schmincke Horadam Watercolour titanium-opaque White; time: >10 hours?

Please don't upload my pictures somewhere else without my permission. Don't infringe copyright!

This is super beautiful, these northen lights are similar to those we sometimes have here in Iceland :)

Thank you very much! :) I wish I could see northern lights myself. That must be a very beautiful sight! In northern Germany we see them once in 10 years (but not that strong/beautiful) and I always miss them. Sweating a little...

:O Wow, at first I thought this was a photo! The colours are so vibrant, and the difference between soft, blurry (the sky and the water) and sharp (the branches, omg, the branches!!!) outlines make it look just like a photo! Great job!

Beautiful artwork! The thing that is the best and makes it seem so realistic is this wonderful water and this tree on the left. But the water is amazing! :)

Was it done on a black/dark paper or did you paint it so dark with markers and then used colored pencils?

Thank you very much! :)

I used white paper. So I've made everything so dark with the markers. For example the sky: black, different gray tones, green & purple markers + colored pencils (there are always at least 1-2 layers of colored pencil on the "marker base layer") + white gel pen and white paint for the stars (see also description for the tools).

I understand, you did a really good job, it's not so easy create such a dark picture on a white paper. I think that markers were a great choice because it wouldn't look so good done only with colored penicls :)
