The fire grew. Its flaming tongues spread, formed tentacles, then solidified into legs. The ground hissed and blackened when the burning beast touched it. A big, snarling mouth emerged, filled with smoke and teeth of heat. 

Xe recognised it. The element might be different, but the creature was the same. Xe pushed xer back against the wall.

ORIGINAL VERSION
From chapter 12. Some people might have seen this one already, since it is uploaded to my Reading Corner. I won't spoil the details, but the chapter features a scene with Khorrek vs. a fire melker. Melkers aren't real creatures; they are runaway spells, magic that got a mind of its own, so to speak. Spells need life energy to sustain itself, and these 'spells' are capable of seeking out people and 'feed' on them. Since melkers are some kind of spell, a sorcerer can control them. They are stored in little jars when not used. It let out a little squee of joy when I saw entries featuring melkers; you guys did your homework! Awesome!

Also, Khorrek is a sentrin, meaning he has long, tufted ears, but since the beginning of the story, he only has one tuft. It got burnt off by a wyvern and he therefore hates/fears fire. Hence why he is touching his ear so often here.

ORIGINAL VERSION
From chapter 10, meaning this one was also featured in the Reading Corner. Selanji, Lienne and Khorrek are stuck in some field guarded by soldiers and want to get out. Khorrek rolled a natural 1 on his 'move silently' check, so now Selanji gives it a try - her way, of course. Her precautions involve mimicking having an STD called 'the Violet Stain', for which she need berries of a certain colour... Oh, and Lienne gets covered by the stuff too, since Selanji is overly protective and highly distrustful towards soldiers.

The forest was neither big nor dense. The trees disappeared much sooner than xe hoped, and xe ran into a fallow field. 

Xe came to a slipping stop; the field was occupied. 

From chapter 11, also published in the Reading Corner. This takes place a short moment after Selanji did her thing with the berries. Morgan has been taken captive too, but got separated from Selanji,  Lienne and Khorrek. She escaped though, but runs right into the most stupid pair of soldiers my world has ever seen... Errhan and Tooth just got tricked by Selanji, now it's Morgan's turn.

ORIGINAL VERSION
This was the most popular snippet (which makes me wonder if you guys are all alcoholics ), but unfortunately, the original version is only in its 'zero draft' stage, meaning it is so ugly and incomplete I can't share it. I can tell what happened here though - and it is quite different compared to your entries  
This takes place at pretty much at the end of book one, so around chapter 50. Rain got locked up (in a zoo, of all places) but Morgan, Lienne, and Orion made a plan to get him out. That plan fails before they even started it because the place gets overrun by mysterious beasts that have been plaguing the area for some time now. Rain got out of his cage but is too weak to fight the beasts, so Morgan does that instead. Morgan doesn't know how to fight though, but being a circus artist, she can breathe fire. She uses some very dubious, strong liquor for that, something most people don't even consider to be a drink (the only place where it gets sold is Lennard's tavern - you know, that guy that took the role as ringmaster in the first couple of chapters). It's basically what happened in Chapter 3, except that Morgan has to aim at something now. Beasts catch fire, everybody happy. Rain, being the alienated elf he is, doesn't understand how Morgan did that though. Morgan then explains him the concept of alcohol and gives him a taste of the strong stuff. The rest of the chapter is drenched in Rain's puke.

This comes from a chapter halfway book 1, where Lienne meets Rain. At that moment, Lienne is a guest of a professor and his pet dragon Juul. Rain sneaks in when the professor is not at home - via a balcony, because front doors are overrated. 
Lienne has the tendency to hum when she is afraid, in case you were wondering why she did that here.

I think this comes from chapter somewhere-around-40. It's the second draft, so it will see some more edits. Anyway, Morgan flies with Nox, a skaad, to find Lienne and Rain, who should have arrived at a certain place but they never did. Morgan searches for them, but without time for proper preparations: never ride a scaled beast in nothing but a nightgown...

I really enjoyed all your entries, and how vastly different some are compared to the original story. Context matters, it seems I hope you had fun as well! Was your entry very different compared to the original version? Also, did I forget to mention anyone here? Would be such a shame...
