Real Media and Cat by Quachir Real Media and Cat by Quachir
This is actually a very old picture. Something I did for my art class during my senior year of high school; nearly 7 years ago.

This is my now deceased cat Miki. We had to put her down a week after the US Thanksgiving, so December 1. She had kidney failure, I was only lucky enough to see her before we put her down as I was visiting that weekend partly as a late Thanksgiving weekend for me and also to see my university's hockey team take on my home town's university hockey team.

She was my cat and I agreed with my parents on it within a few minutes of seeing her. She wasn't walking around much and was sticking to three of the rooms in the house, the bathroom was only because her litterbox was in there and my bedroom and my parents room was on either side of it. The two bedrooms she only used to be near the heating vents we think to try and ease the pain. But she was also trying to avoid everyone. If you were in a room too long she'd switch to the other room.

That gave you the opportunity to see her walk which was a sad sight. Her back legs looked stiff, as if rigger had already set in while she was still alive. I knew that when I saw her walking like that she didn't have long in the first place and was probably in a lot of pain but didn't even have enough of a voice to speak of it.

The real sad thing about this is that she was only a month and a half over seven years old. We did try to keep her going but we could see if was taking too much of a toll on her.

As for the picture, this was done for my art class I was taking in the spring of 2001 when Miki was about 4-6 months old as she was born in October of 2000. In this art class the teacher had us actually learn to draw real/still life objects in different media. One of our projects was to use three different media. He did count pencil and colored pencil as two different media so I added ink to this.

You might not be able to see it too well but I did use color pencil on Miki's eyes which were a very pretty gold color.

Hopefully later I'll have the original picture I sketched this from as I've set my dad to work looking for it to show the difference of it.

Update: My father got me the picture and I've posted it in my scraps as I didn't take the picture myself but have permission from my dad to put it up.

Aw, the kitty :( *Hugs*

I had to put my cat down a couple years back, and she had the same kind of thing: the really tight walk, and it was clear that she wasn't 'happy'. There comes a time to let go. It's a shame that your kitty was so young though, that's somewhat unusual. But you did the right thing, and at least here you've got the kitten captured beautifully :D

Yeah, she was a very pretty cat being a calico, and I'm really glad I did this even more so than when I actually made it.

The somewhat funny/ironic thing is that our other cat Lucy has reverted to a kitten like air to her personality since Miki was put down... then again when we got Miki, Lucy was about a year and a half old and had been living with our old tom cat, Jack, who we put down and the same day brought Miki. Lucy obviously didn't like that too much. It's sad that she felt she couldn't act like a kitten with a younger cat around and now that Miki's gone she's taking back her kitten "years."

I've actually seen that behavior before in several of my cats. One was my original Purrcey, who was but a kitten at the door when I needed a cat just like him... And then about 5 months (at most) later, here came Batty, a little black kitten (the ugliest kitten ever born, who turned all gorgeous later on). Purrcey would act all mom-ish (such a gay cat) but before then he was totally kitteny. Then when I got my other kittens Boxer and Toots, they both kind of went all mom-ish. weird.

Difference here is that Lucy didn't go mom-ish on Miki, when we introduced Miki to her she hated her. She stopped liking to play with toys when ever Miki was near by and would leave the room most of the time. After she seemed fine with Miki but still wasn't to keen on playing with something with Miki around. Miki ended up being top cat because of it in away.
