Strange Crests of Paleo

The crests of fossil animals can be as widely and uniquely odd as those of living ones, and what data we have concerning them varies from group to group. Some soft crests have a bony undersupport, but others don't. How to know when a crest is present? That's the question of the day.

Hahah that is what a male gorilla would totally look like to us if it were extinct. I've recently started sketching out fossil primates and I just feel so dang ridiculous after drawing them, realizing soft tissues on them cannot be possibly compared to modern animals 100% of the way... I don't even feel right posting Teilhardina anymore.

Great job on Anzu's plumage and pattern! Probably my favorite depiction of this animal so far.

The mighty Shark-finned Gorilla, Gorilla carcharatops, in all of its glory. :) (Smile)

I really like the speculative Anzu!

That's no bird, but it's close - it's oviraptorosaur Anzu wyliei (speculative reconstruction).
