Take Your Sister

"RETRO," Zipper Breeze shouted at the top of lungs, "where are you going!?"

Retro Dash flinched in surprise and in annoyance at the sound of his little sister's voice ringing in from behind him. He spun around, angrily rushing up to his sister's side and slapped a firm wing across her muzzle.

"Shh!" he breathed, looking around quickly for his parents. "I'm heading out to see somepony...," Retro whispered quietly, "somepony special."

Zipper looked up at her brother with wide eyes, clearly her interest had been peaked unfortunately for Retro. She eagerly pushed his wing aside and sprung up, wings flapping in dramatic excitement.

"A special somepony!? A marefriend? A secret lover," she buzzed around her brother in tight circles, occasionally slapping him across the face with her wings, leaving him spitting feathers and trying to catch her. "Ooh, oh, I know!" Zipper exclaimed, "You're going to see Coffee Cake! She's been talking about you nonstop all week long, and she even blushes when she says your na-" she was cut off abruptly as Retro tackled his sister to the floor, desperately trying to keep her quiet.

"Keep it down, Zip! Mom is going to hear you if you don't stop," he pleaded with her desperately. His cheeks flushed with color as he became more embarrassed. Coffee Cake was one of the most desirable mares in town, but it was well known by many other ponies that she and Applejack's son, Casey, were the "it" couple. Only just recently had they broken up, and Retro knew it was all because of him, and he wanted as little ruckus to be made about the mare and himself as possible.

Coffee Cake and Casey had been a couple since high school; he was the hoofball team quarterback, and she was head cheerleader, it almost seemed like a gushy teen movie when it came to them. Seemingly the perfect senior year couple. Casey was one of Retro's closest friends, and he'd always had a crush on his buddy's girl, but he knew if Casey found them out, he'd really be in for it...

Retro scrambled to his hooves and let Zipper get up, dusting herself off with her long wings.

"You didn't have to go and do that," she spat, glaring at her brother, "you could have just asked me kindly." Zipper puffed up her chest dramatically and stood in front of the door, blocking Retro's exit. "I want to go with you! She's my friend after all, and I deserve to be there just in case you break her heart," she snorted.

Zipper Breeze wasn't allowed to leave the house very often without being with either Retro or one of her friends due to Rainbow Dash being overly protective of her daughter and her wings. She's always to be watched over just in case something were to happen, such as spraining a wing, breaking a wing, or even loosing primary flight feathers, which take a while to replace themselves. Though Zip is unaware, Rainbow is especially protective of her because of the fact that she can fly, and has the potential to be a Wonderbolt, such as herself. Unlike her son Retro, Zipper is oozing potential when it came to competitive flying, and their mother certainly didn't want to lose that.

Suddenly, a malicious gleam sparkled in Zipper's eyes as she became aware that she could leave the house with her brother, her smile reaching from ear to ear as she looked over at her brother.

"I'm coming with you!" she stated matter-of-factually.

Retro Dash's wings shot out in anger, knowing well enough what his sister was doing, feathers swirling to the floor. "You're not going anywhere with me! This is an important date!" he shouted in a nervous voice.

"A secret date," his sister retorted, her grin becoming more provoking, "if you don't take me, I'm telling Buck Wild! Or better yet, Casey!" she bluffed. Though she knew she'd never do that to her brother, she desperately wanted to go, whether she actually did want to see Cake, or just get out of the house for a bit; even if that meant spending the day with her brother.

"You wouldn't," Retro hissed, the tips of his ears now hot with blush as Zipper challenged him.

Her face suddenly changed to that of an innocent puppy, wide-eyed and adorable. "Oooh mooom!" she called as she started trotting toward her father's office, where Zephyr was styling Rainbow's hair for a new image to be used in his salon book. "Retro's leaving without meee!" Zipper whined pathetically in a sing-song voice.

Rainbow Dash quickly bolted out of the room with her mane in several ribbons and bows, Zephyr hot on her trail as he desperately tried to keep her from messing up his work. She rushed to her foal quickly, looking distressed and in shock at what she was hearing.

"What do you mean he won't? He most certainly will," she looked back at her son, in honest confusion as to why he wouldn't want his younger sister tagging along.

"Retro, take your sister with you, she needs to stretch her wings! She has practice tonight!" she exclaimed, lovingly picking loose feathers from Zipper's wings as Zip looked past her and back at her brother with an accomplishing grin.

Zephyr also looked at Retro with apologetic eyes as he glanced at his wife preening their daughter. "She doesn't have to stay with you the entire time, son..." he said softly, "just get her back in time for practice, yeah?" he asked, nodding to him in understanding.

Retro sighed heavily and began walking towards the door, his hooves softly echoing through the quiet house as he walked in defeat. "Fine," he growled as he opened the door, "we wouldn't want Zipper's wings to get sore tonight, would we?" he said without glancing back.

Zipper followed along, bouncing excitedly behind Retro Dash, oblivious to the tension that enveloped her family.

------

Poor Retro just can't catch a break. First having a wing deformity in which his flight feathers never grow, now he's plagued with a much younger sibling who doesn't have anything wrong with her wings. Which is good for a family of potential Wonderbolts, right? Though the favoritism is unintentional, the feelings do hit hard for Retro and Zephyr both. Zeph hates watching his son suffer but he himself can't bare to say much to Rainbow, in fear that it could get worse.

Zipper being as naive as she is, is pretty oblivious to most of these things, which at times can make her seem malicious and selfish, though Retro is aware of this, sometimes it's hard to like her.

Well... sooner or later, all that bottled up resentment will find its way out Retro :/ Sooner or later it will which will likely put the whole family at odds

Love the story and the characters ^^
