Trench Rat - Revised by Pyrosity Trench Rat - Revised by Pyrosity
Finished. Over 8 hours of work on the digital side.

God damn and good night. I'm going to bed :P

Edit: Updated with final revisions... added rim lighting, clouds, tweaked shading a bit, other things.

This is my life drawing 3 final piece.

Very nice work indeed! I love the character design and the attention to detail. Little things like whiskers, it's amazing how many people (including myself at times) forget about them.
I also like the sorta dirty overall feel you get from this, it's realistic to the scene and suits the character well.

If I were to offer my opinion on one thing though, have you thought about perhaps matting his fur colour a little bit? This is purely my opinion, but I almost think the crimson and gold are just a tad too... loud? Other than that, the fur is great, the patterns are interesting and I like the way you've almost grimey-ed it up for the picture.

Great going with this, I think it was well worth the time spent. :D

Thank you! :)

Yes, the crimson/gold coloration is pretty "loud" as you put it. I was debating what to do with that but I decided to leave it. My reasoning behind that was that since most of the rest of him as a character is rather dull, muted, etc, I felt he needed stand out with his fur. That, plus in this drawing he's not wearing his usual firefighter bunker gear which has bright reflective tape on it in places.

I think the one thing I'd probably go back and change out of all of it though, is the skull/facial structure. It's alright, but it doesn't really show off his character as well as I'd like. But then, this is partially a problem simply because I haven't got enough practice developing a definite look for him quite yet.

WOA :jawdrop: this looks truly just fantastic!
I just love how you've coloured this, with the sharp use of colours and how you've shaded fold so realistic :o
I'm truly beginning to really like your character.. all the fur patterns and details you've given him and expression you've given him.. it really shines of personality by just looking at his eyes.. (I'm not babling too much am I? =P)

this is decently your best finished drawing yet!

Thank you so much! :D

I'm really glad this was our final for life 3. I really got into it and enjoyed working on it very much, plus it was a great way for me to show more of what Torche looks like under his baggy fireproof suit, without going through a referential turn-around.

ugh yea, I've allways found reference sheets rather boring and dull to do. Well atleast boring to get started on

Yeah. And they're so... utilitarian, at least traditionally. There's usually not much in the way of "artfulness" to them, and often aren't too exciting to look at. I love it though, when people break out the boundaries and do a ref sheet with awesome poses and drawing that not only is freakin' cool, but also very useful as a reference.

well ain't you the demanding one? drawing a pose that's both cool and useful for reference sure isn't easy! :XD:

Hehe :D Yeah I'm kinda like that. I love to see people do things that break traditional boundaries.
