Seeking the Successor by Pyrosity Seeking the Successor by Pyrosity
Update: re-uploaded as a compressed jpg. Don't know what I was thinking making it a huge png D: Original description follows:

I didn't really know what category to put this in; it's a graphite drawing with color added in photoshop.

It's my completed final project for structural drawing this semester, and since we were encouraged to do something pertaining to our majors I decided to use it as a vehicle to illustrate a bit of Epiverse. I started with preliminary sketches and planning, and then the final piece was created from an 18x24 graphite drawing scanned into photoshop to give it color (and clean up the shadows). For the curious, this is my reference photo: [link] It was taken on the RMCAD campus, in the alleyways between the Tri-boro and Boiler house buildings.

Torché is seen resting as he continues to search for May during the AFM's takeover of key facilities in Colorado still under NWI control ([link]). This particular facility is part of what was originally a Lockheed Martin complex, which is later expanded greatly and becomes the Pentex Research Facility.

I'm very happy with how this came out, even though there are a few errors here and there.

[This work a part of Epiverse]

Dang... How the hell do you keep it so damn CLEAN? *envy*

Epic precision in the shadows and architecture and perspective. Really. Things like the door handle and the truck are just plain well drawn. The pencil marks are really nice. I can see how it sorta helps break up the architectural precision (which is a good thing). Mebbie play with that more next time. The bullet holes are a nice touch. Dunno about the (vector?) smoke. Kinda wish it was pencilly like the rest.

4MB is huge... took all night to load this thing. ): Consider jpegs. Seriously. For the sake of those of us on college networks that suck.

You're going to RMCAD now? Awesome! Say hi to Carissa S. and Alison F. for me, yah?

I must have been an idiot when I saved this, I really should re-upload a jpg of it. In fact I'll go do that now before I forget.

The smoke was just brushed in flat and made transparent, sort of as an afterthought - It does look a little out of place to me. Dunno what to say about keeping it clean though xD The scanned in drawing was kind of dirty, but that sort of helped provide texture. 90% of what I did in PS was just flat colors multiplying to show up 'behind' the drawing.

Thank you! =3

Lol, my pencil drawings are usually huge masses of lines I've gone over about 20 times trying to get them just right. xD But ye have pretteh clean lines. So yar. Envy.

And yeah, that loads MUCH faster. xD

Huh, that description seems to fit a lot of my drawing. This one not so much, but often when I'm getting down to it I'll end up attacking the paper and practically etching the drawing into it because I press so hard.

That's some fething good coloring there; it seems whenever I try to photoshop color onto a scanned pencil drawing, it always comes out looking like shit.

Thank you! :)

Have you tried using a color layer on multiply, so that it goes "under" the sketch itself? I tend to use that method every time, it keeps the sketch's lines and texture intact.

Well, now I generally just paint and airbrush in PS from scratch, and so far, it works just fine, so eh. :/

Thank you! :D I was really happy to do this piece, and though I can't personally call it flawless I'm glad with the result.

Thank you! Can't say it didn't take a long time to get this far though, I've put a hell of a lot of hours into it from planning to final piece.

You don't know how much I want to buy a print of this- but for complicated reasons I wouldn't want to put it up in my room.

But man...it's beautiful.

I hear yah, I'm very fortunate to have parents that likely wouldn't see stuff like that an issue at all.
