Gnnuhm delta by Pyrosity Gnnuhm delta by Pyrosity
The delta where the Gnnuhm river enters the Vast Expanse is home to one of the major highways connecting the nation of Calur to the mountainous northern borders of Frontrange. Most of the goods that Calur imports from Frontrange travel through this low and rocky passage, and it is also home to a major hydroelectric power plant, which feeds the never-dormant Providtkelnish Shipyard.

Finding it's somehow much easier to just start noodling an environmental sketch/painting without any plan to what it'll end up as, than most other things I tend to draw. Usually I find it difficult to start a sketch when I don't have any concrete plans, but with enviros you can just turn them into whatever they seem to want to be. A little less than 3 hours on this.

edit: fixed wonky perspective a bit

I always have the opposite problem! I always find it difficult with environments and backgrounds, but random foreground character interactions just sort of shape themselves. I wish I could draw nice backgrounds like this, you make it seem so easy! :P

I must say, my landscape painting class I took a year or so back helped quite a lot. And it was also a huge benefit to have had the pleasure to paint in and around the Colorado Mountains (mostly near Red Rocks). What I should do now though, is do more studies in other kinds of terrain, especially urban areas. However, I'm a bit of a hermit and have a love/hate relationship with oil paints, so I haven't drawn up the inclination to do so yet.
