Coalition Dragoon by Pyrosity Coalition Dragoon by Pyrosity
This idea has been in the works for the past few months. I'm proud and glad to be done with the biggest part of it, designing their uniform. Though in the end it's somewhat simple, I spent a great deal of time researching possibilities. I would say I'm happy with the result, and the process has been a good exercise in concerting much of my creative juices in several areas to produce an overall concept of complex component parts.

The Dragoons are elite Coalition infantry tasked primarily with reconnaissance, tracking, and spotting enemy positions, which are relayed to command elements in order that artillery strikes or air support be directed upon them. Though they are not meant to directly engage the enemy, they are equipped to do so, usually with battle rifles of larger caliber and longer range, and they use tactics of deception as often as possible to fool the enemy into believing they are fighting a much larger force.

Coalition Dragoons are, in technical terms, mechanized special forces infantry. They are deployed with a mix of tracked and wheeled armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, and if need be may cross difficult terrain with motor bikes. Their transports are usually not engaged in the actual reconnoitering tasks of the Dragoons, but rather parked far enough away as to not alert any possible enemy forces, while the Dragoons themselves proceed on foot or bikes.

Their uniform consists of a light combat vest made of recently developed liquid armor capable of stopping low velocity pistol rounds up to .45 caliber. It is flexible and does not weigh much. Dragoons often have to carry a good deal of equipment, especially if on long treks far away from friendly supply lines. They're conditioned to carry full camping gear in a large backpack, along with other gear specific to their needs. The vest itself has 3 large bags (one on the chest, two on the flanks), as well as several pouches for ammunition and other small supplies.

The bright blue cap is of the standard Coalition blue, similar to the United Nations Blue in both color and purpose; as used on other Coalition forces, it identifies them to civilians as peace keepers. Coalition forces - and by extension Dragoons - always carry an alternate cap or helmet cover to wear when discretion or proper camouflage is desired.

The Dragoon shown here is in their temperate hues uniform, made of drab green trousers and vest with an off white coat. The coat is invertible and worn inside out it is deep forest green, for warmer months when there isn't snow on the ground.

"Uh, you want I should kick that baby?"

Awsome. I love their armor, particularly how it's integrated into a standard combat vest.

I tried to make it as simple as possible, so it's basically undershirt, coat, and vest, and that's it. The vest has all the pockets and pouches already sewn in for them, as well as proper ties/supports for their huge backpacks.
