AV-1R Retrofit by Pyrosity AV-1R Retrofit by Pyrosity
Following the end of the Third War and during the foundation of the AFM, the ADA needed an effective main battle tank platform that would perform as well as any other NWI or ASUN equivalent both in the ISS and urban areas, as well as off-road.

The AV-2 had served as an incredibly effective tank hunter thanks to its hybrid cannon and high maneuverability, but was not near as versatile outside of the ADA's usual urban military engagements. Due also to the somewhat experimental nature of the AV-2, the ADA decided to retrofit their first MBT, the aging AV-1.

Retrofitted AV-1s received an armor upgrade coupled with a modern CASCA system that made them incredibly durable; often reactive armor bricks would also be used to compliment the toughness of these retrofit tanks. They also had raised cupolas and an additional radio antenna to interface with the ADA's own ISS-based underground radio network.

While they lacked the tread-link swap system pioneered by the ADA to let their treaded vehicles easily switch from urban to offroad traction tracks, they were no longer needed to protect the ISS after the NWI was beaten, and thus would operate in traditional armored combat environments.

Are those rear view mirrors sticking up on the sides there? That's classic :)

Yup. ADA vehicles have them so they can more easily navigate narrow underground tunnels. Of course, they're kind of in the line of fire of the turret and coaxial MG, so they simply "unlatch" and slide down at the push of a button.
