ADA Tunneller by Pyrosity ADA Tunneller by Pyrosity
The ADA Tunnellers are to the International Subway System what Foresters are to forests; they function as maintenance and security, and in general are the main way the ADA keeps the ISS in check. Tunnellers continued to service the ISS from its creation and beyond the end of the Third War, and were the primary source of spare and reserve troops for ADA (and later AFM) combat operations.

Initially unarmed, the ADA began issuing Tunnellers an assortment of cheap and reliable civilian weapons when the Third War broke out. The weapons were mostly hunting rifles and shotguns, with Winchester lever-action rifles becoming a favorite.

Though they had only basic combat training, protecting the ISS hardened the Tunnellers into formidable veterans by the end of the Third War.

I wanted to give the ADA a non-military-looking serviceman who used civilian gear and weaponry; by definition the Tunnellers are not a military force. Their gear varies from person to person, and between locations, but it generally consists of a protective, thick, one-piece jumpsuit, a simple shoulderstrap harness for carrying bags and packs, a hard hat/helmet, a radio headset, personal weapon, and a filter mask similar in function to gas masks to protect from dust and etc other harmful particles. The original uniform was designed with underground search/rescue work in mind. As a side note, Torché was originally a member of the Tunnellers.

hmmm I like the consept of this guy, sicne you get the feeling that he used to be regular civillian before the war boke out and thus why wears a mixture of civillian and millitary clothing^^ (wich has allways been something I've liked when drawing guerrillas^^)
hmm it allso makes sense that Torche was originally a meber of this group^^ flamethrowers are after all REAlly effective in tunnels =D

Yup, that's the idea. They're just regular guys just trying to help, but when war broke out, ADA policy was to not allow any military forces into the tunnels. So they had to be armed and defend the "last bastion of peace", or so it was called by some.
Thank you! :)

I like how it turned out; I didn't want it to be one of those totally menacing gas masks, but something a little more... tame, I guess? Or non-threatening perhaps. Either way, thanks! :)

I love the crazy, almost WWI looking gas mask. These guys are crazy cool. Do they carry self-rescuers? (You might have to actually be a miner to know what one of those are, but they are pretty cool so I have to mention it)

Looking it up, yeah they probably would. These guys would have had to deal with tunnel collapses fairly often, especially when the Third War broke out.

Thanks! :)

Y'know, I probably would too. Hell I've thought from time to time about becoming a firefighter or rescue worker or something but never really pursued that because I'm in terrible physical shape and totally unfit for that line of work - plus doing my art thing and all. I think I'd have the right mindset though.
