me and taught me my letters and numbers
and colors and gave me the tools I needed
to create my world.

I taught her as much as she taught me,
but I didn’t realize it until later.

once upon a time she wished she could
forget all the times someone told me
“you look so much like your mother”
and I coolly replied “I don’t see it;”

and once upon a time she knew she
could never ignore the ice in my voice
when I teased her.  she knew I wasn’t
really joking when I said that I would
hate to grow up like her; she knew I
meant it when I said that I loved you
more.
