Independence Day
It was Independence Day, and we,
huddled on a blanket,
held our breath as the show began.
Lights, glimmering lights danced in our eyes
as excitement poured through the crowd.
Suddenly, a BANG, and cheers;
another BANG and a crackle
as loud explosions filled the air with
their shimmering lights.
Streamers of fire ran like rivers through the air,
dragons of fire loomed in the darkness.
A girl stared in horror, the glowing ribbons of colour
seemed to reach out, threatening.
The girl ran.
People, faces, flew past.
The rough pavement solid against her small feet,
as she fled into the night.
