Picture 3 of 4
These four drawings were from a time when scanners and digital editing programs such as Adobe Photoshop were not yet commonplace household items. The internet worked fine for email, but showing a drawing like this to a friend miles away required the friend to wait about 30 seconds as the picture appeared on the receiving screen, one line at a time.
A lot of my artwork back then used the media of pencil, thin black marker, eraser, thick black marker to color in the larger areas of negative space, a white gel pen, a trip to either Copyworks or Kinkos so I could make a photocopy that would smooth down my blacks into a non-smudging non-distracting flat black, more in-person editing with thin black marker and white gel pen upon the newly-printed sheet, color markers, and finally a scan of the final drawing.
