Burning Hot Blood

“Where am I? I-I can’t move… Everything hurts… My head…” Kirby thought. The buzzing of the fluorescent lights and the rhythmic ticking of a clock caused a severe migraine to worsen each second the fari was awake. She struggled to open her heavy eyelids. Her vision blurred and pounded like a heartbeat. The bright, white room was agonizing to her poor head. She slowly scanned the area through squinted eyes. The room was small, and had a tiny window to the left. The summer light was pouring in from the outside, making the white room seem brighter than it normally would. A powerful sterile smell was wafting from the thick, white bed sheets.

“Am I in a hospital?” Kirby questioned herself “Why am I here?” and began to think. “Last thing I can remember is Azure… and the dark.” Her nose scrunched and she rubbed the bandages over her head and then her eyes, making her vision very blurry for split second “But what happened to Azure…” her sight focused and she felt the soft blanket that covered her, before taking them off. “Azure and I were sitting on a hill…” She was dressed in a blue hospital gown.  Grasping onto the bed frame, the little fari made her way out of the bed. “Then something happened…” Her head pounded with every movement she took. “I feel so nauseous…” she grabbed onto her head, and started tearing up from the pain “What happened with Him… or, to him?”

She fell to her knees and caught herself, almost banging her head on the hard ground. Kirby’s vision began to darken. “What is wrong with me? What happened?” She spoke out in a shriveled voice and curled up on the cold, tiled floor. The buzzing of the lights amplified even louder. The clock booming. She felt so weak and tired. Breathing heavily, her eyes slowly closed and she lost consciousness.

All around was dark, but warped and dead silent. “Where am I now?” Kirby questioned and felt the bandages on her head. The pain was miraculously gone. In fact, there was no feeling at all throughout her entire body. Liberated from pain, she sighed from relief and turned towards a glowing, faint light. “This feels like a dream” she talked to herself, and then wondered “am I dreaming?” speaking again while walking towards the dim light, which was getting brighter which each step. A voice echoed all over and Kirby looked, trying to find the source of the voice.

“Welcome Kirby, I’ve been waiting for you” the tone was menacing and unforgiving, yet felt very familiar. The fari tilted her head and pondered. She took a step forward in the darkness. A panicked voice shrieked from the light “KIRBY RUN TOWARDS ME NOW” Kirby began to feel hot, like fire was burning her face and clothes. She started to sweat and cough violently from smoke. Her innocent eyes met with another’s. A grin formed on the creatures face. “KIRBY, RUN!” the voice yelled again. Two clawed hands reached out, covered in boiling hot blood. The heat from the hands scorched Kirby’s body. She cried out in pain and forcibly pushed the beast back, burning her hands. The dark, menacing figure laughed and smiled, basking in the poor fari’s pain. She started to cry, terrified of what would happen next. The evil was surrounding her. Tears started to fall “Please help.” She whispered to herself. Comforting feelings surrounded her with a warm light. She could finally breathe.

A white, godly creature stood over Kirby, protecting her from the darkness. Kirby began to softly cry at the goddess before her. The beautiful fari saw her terrified expression and calmly placed her hands on her trembling face. A wave of relief swept over Kirby and softly placed her hands over top of them. “Thank you” Kirby spoke. She nodded in understanding and stood up to face the darkness “You will not hurt her. You have caused enough murder today.” She spoke softly. “You slipped up today.” It hissed back, and Kirby started to shake “Your light is growing fainter with each passing day. It’s my time to take over, sister.” The evil presence Kirby felt was finally gone.

“Are you alright?” the angel spoke to Kirby, softly touching her burnt wounds. Her hands felt cool and soothed the sores.  “My name is Caeles. I’m a good spirit. The one who harmed you was my sister, Caedes. She’s a restless, evil spirit.” She explained. “But don’t worry, you’re safe with me.” Caeles sat down to Kirby’s level and gave a comforting hug. The burns all over the small fari began to heal and she hugged back. “Why is she out to get me?” She questioned Caeles. Her comforting smile withered and became silent for a moment. Her cheery face appeared again “You’re a very powerful being Kirby. She wants to use you to do some very dark deeds.” She spoke softly. Kirby’s eyes widened, she was mortified. “But you need to wake up now.” She continued. “Your friend is dying.” Her voice trembled. Kirby’s voice shook back and questioned “is it Azure?” Caeles pulled her closer. “You will have another dream. Be ready” Kirby’s voice began to distort with panic and fear “HOW WILL I KNOW? HOW DO I WAKE UP?”  Caeles brushed her hair back and kissed her forehead. Kirby awoke in the hospital in a cold sweat.
