#641: The barnfire trend (3) by Pupaveg #641: The barnfire trend (3) by Pupaveg
"No one would say that!" www.facebook.com/omnifail/phot…

For those who don't know: in the Netherlands, since 2016 there has been something going on we call a "barnfire trend". Cattle farmers who are in financial trouble, or are at the edge of bankrupcy, put their own farm on fire, burn all of their animals alive, pretend it is an accident and then receive a huge sum of insurance money. Since one farmer did this, many others follow, and they still do. Just in this itty-bitty tiny country of mine, millions of animals suddenly burn alive in barnfire "accidents" and new, improved farms from the insurance money keep popping up everywhere. Not all farmers follow the trend, but many, WAY too many, do, at the expense of millions of innocent lives. The authorities don't bother investigating because farm animals are considered property in our country and have zero protection. Many farmers struggle financially because the number of people who eat meat keeps dropping drastically, and some even openly discuss a barnfire with other farmers as their only way out of the financial mess.

But yesterday one of those farmers finally got arrested after burning down his house and farm, killing all of his animals and his guard dog, hoping to catch some good insurance money! Sadly it was only because his fire brought the other humans in danger who lived in the house (otherwise he would have gotten away with it, just like the dozends of others who do it every month, because "they're just animals"). Because human lives were involved this time, the police investigated and all evidence lead to the farmer himself. I wish they'd just investigate every of those darn barnfires already! Not just those who only involved human lives! Some other farmers in the Netherlands are in a state of willed delusion about this, because they fear for the reputation of Dutch cattle farmers, and keep insisting that ALL barnfires, dozends a month, are just ALL "accidents". This comic shows one of the absurd arguments such farmers pull in response to people who don't play dumb and recognize the obvious fraud. I mean, this guy put his farm on fire for the 5TH TIME in 2 weeks, because the first times didn't burn off everything (the firemen were able to put it out faster than he predicted)! How damn stupid or deluded must one be to keep insisting that these are just "accidents"? Farmers like this deserve a lifetime in jail!

Not all farmers in financial trouble do it though. But too many do.

crisis leads to fear, fear leads to panic and thus panic makes people do ridiculous actions.

I am aware. Carrots their sugar level is higher than in most leafy greens, so they only get carrots every once in a while, but mostly hay and pellets, and leafy greens and vegs.

I have no idea how feeding animals the food they naturally eat is abusing them.

Rabbits eat carrots in the wild, they do it by choice, they like it. Cows do not set themselves on fire in the wild, they do not do it by choice, they do not like it.

My best bet is that he was raised to believe animals don't like doing what they naturally do, and that they need a Human to control them to be happy.

It came from a guy who forced his cows to live knee-deep in their own shit.

"They're happy because I'm protecting them. They like manure."

An idiot's brain is an endless pit of excuses and backwards logic.

They wouldn't even believe the fact that I used to be a farmer, because "you are just a teenager, so you probably don't have that much experience!"
I was like:  "LOL, YOUNG? Dude, I could be your MOMMA! But thanks for the compliment!"

IKR? Everyone here is so frustrated about it! It's been going on for years and the authorities don't care because "they're just animals". People who protest are ignored or ridiculed. But thank goodness FINALLY one of those jerks was arrested yesterday!

Good to hear! People shouldn't be able to get away with such an abomination of cruelty at all.

Sadly 99% of them gets away with it because there were no human lives involved, so the authorities don't bother investigating. -_- Of all farmers who put their farm on fire, this guy is the ONLY one who got investigated and arrested. Because he put humans in danger.

It's funny how they use arbitrary excuses to not protect and see animals as "true" victims. If they value humans, they should know that there is nothing true of animals that if true of humans would justify treating a human the same way the animals are treated.

Anyway, at least he'll be punished somehow.
