Hey everyone. Haven't posted anything up for quite some time, so I figured I'd toss up my current Work in Progress. Been quite busy at work (I'm writing for a 3D magazine right now....it's not much, but it's a start), so it's been very tough trying to find the time to get all this art stuff in. Anyways....
This is a model of Metal Gear Rex from the game Metal Gear Solid. I was looking to do some sort of tank or mech, and a lot of people are doing these mechs that for whatever reason have no body armor (inspired by the Matrix A.P.U)....so I wanted to go back to a more traditional style mech, and Rex dawned on me. Not only is Rex a great and difficult build, but her design is beautiful. Even in a neutral pose it actually looks like she's ready to pounce.
It's a hefty model though...weighing in at just over 400,000 polys. Computer has a tough time tumbling that...and come render time I'll definitely have some hard choices to make. But all in all I'm very happy with how she has turned out thus far. I've since completely unwrapped her and now I've started texturing. When that's done, I'm going to rig it up and I've got a few animation friends who have expressed great interest in animating her, so I'll leave it to them to make the machine come alive.
But I'll be sure to update this when the final texture is finished.
