Good Times Rehash by Psi-Baka-Onna Good Times Rehash by Psi-Baka-Onna
As my first attempt to put a piece together for a portfolio, I decided to redraw and colour this old scene from my old gallery: [link]

I think there was a definite improvement somewhere down the line.

Tales of Sin belongs to Sean Payne and Sam Dyer.

Edit: So, a better version of this has been featured on [link]

Why yes, that is the story me and Sean wrote. It's online now. Woot!

I love the redesign of Gratin.
Infact they're all awesome. Your art has improved so much.

its always good to go back and redo old pics... i have a number of pictures i want to redo that had pretty awesome concepts, but my skills weren't quite up to scratch to do them in the way i wanted at the time.

a definite improvement over the first, although i prefer the tighter, cosier feel of the booth in the first one, to the more open feel of this one. but as for colours, shading and lines... bueno!

Good work, definitely a huge improvement. The guys arm looked a bit odd at first, but then I realised it's a robot-ish-arm x'D
Maybe you should try to add a bit texture to the walls / furniture, it looks a bit "empty".

But these soft shadows don't work that well with your Comic-ish style imo, did you try more "hard" shadows or whatever it's called xD
I think it would fit your style better.
The shadows themselfes look quite good though.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by hard shadows. I tried my best to make it look right but I guess I need to do more research into how to do shadows right. I suspect my choice in inking method didn't help matters. I probably should have stuck to pencil...hmm...

Thanks for the critique though, I don't receive it very often.

yar, I didn't know the exact term xD
I mean like in that picture:

The "soft" shadows look better on realistic / more detailed pictures imo

Oh, you mean a more cell-shaded style. To tell you the truth, I tend to try a more realistic approach to my ToS stuff but then try cell shading with my less serious stuff. I probably should have tried a different inking method with this piece. Oh well, live and learn.

yar, the style itself is more of a comic style and not really realistic, so the more realistic ("soft") shadows don't work that wel with it.
