Don Clark by PRR8157 Don Clark by PRR8157
West coast bandleader.  Recorded for Victor and Columbia.  Bing Crosby made his first recording with Clark's orchestra in 1927, before joining the Paul Whiteman Orchestra.  The song was "I've Got The Girl" and Bing did a duet with his partner from Spokane, Al Rinker.  They sang in the jazzy style that they would popularize as "The Rhythm Boys", once Harry Barris was added under Whiteman's guidance.
A bit of irony here.  Crosby's first record was Don Clark's last; he never recorded again.  Even more ironic was the fact that on "I've Got The Girl", Clark's band imitates the style that Whiteman played in.  The arrangement could pass for a Whiteman.
