Hello everybody! Here I am typing this to protect yourself of events like such.
But what could I be talking about?
There are some that have heard about this event to many famous artists, it's best that there be no name calling!
As observing this event everything did get fixed, thank god, but there's no telling when it could happen again, and you yourself wouldn't know what to do.
This is not to scare you from doing commissions! Please don't feel discouraged. This is only for your sake, guys.

How can they steal my money online?
The term is called chargeback, There are many ways of doing so, and how it happens.

  • "Did not authorize this purchase."
  • "Did not recieve product"
  • "Had a problem with merchandise quality"
  • An item was paid for but never received.
  • An item received was significantly different than described.
  • An item was damaged in shipping.
  • A credit card number was used fraudulently.

How Can I Protect myself from this happening?

Thanks to all the info I've looked up, there are ways of doing so, plus, this helps you from any place people are buying, not just on dA, but also FurAffinity, Tumblr, etc.

  • Look up their background information.

This may sound odd, but it is best you ask how other artists have received from him/her. Questions to also ask yourself, how long has this person been on?, do they seem sketchy?, have they ever bought from others?

  • Money Order/Western Union.

This is rather safest option, my mom usually sends money through Western Union for our family down in Honduras, and you can pick up the cash in the closest one near you, so long as you have their info. Money Orders, it's almost like a check, you can send it through USPS throughout the U.S., that's really up to you.

  • Sign up for Seller protection.

The lovely :iconmdizzle-designs: has created a very through journal with information about it. Go check it out! (fav.me/d7v1w9q)

…But buyers themselves should also be aware of artists that asks for commissions, how can you protect yourself from them in a way.
Say you buy something from them. A word before you commission someone -

Remember to check their background
This really goes for anyone. Are they good or bad with commissions? Time wise? Are you willing to wait a long line? Are they huge a-holes when it comes to anything?

I hope this has all been helpful to all of you, be safe everyone!

Sorry thought this was about EMAIL SCAMS. Ignore me. This is really a good thing to bring out, however. I'm glad you did it. :aww:

I would add two things.

One:  One seller I spoke to indicated that he would not accept anything except a Postal money order, since he had been burned with a bank money order in the past.

Two: Presuming you take physical payments - the payment is not in the bank, until the check has cleared.  This may take 7 - 10 business days, depending on your bank.  My wife and I have personally been burned on that.
