A Recap of 2019 at ProjectEducate!

I did a recap of 2018 at projecteducate last year and it was a fun little exercice that you guys seemed to enjoy as well. So here I am (a little bit late due to January being such a busy month for me) doing a recap of 2019, another year where a lot happened in the group!
Before we get into things, I just wanted to specify how proud I am of projecteducate's growth over the years. I "took over" the responsibility of running the group at some point in 2015 and we've come a long way since then! Just in terms of KPIs:
We went from 1,687 members in January 2015 to 5,060 members in January 2020We went from 195,890 pageviews in January 2015 to 542,260 pageviews in January 2020
A lot of things have changed since the earlier days. The community is more involved than ever in terms of organising weeks and other events at projecteducate. We all do our best to ensure the group reflects what YOU want. We need to thank you for all the input and

During previous Feedback Weekend I was assisted by B0nkers in an article that discussed how one can give feedback, today, we're on the opposite end of the spectrum: receiving it!
Before we kick off on this article, I want to do a small recap of some of the terms we used last time that will be coming back in this article.
Critique is a critical review, discussion or commentary of a specified topic.
Criticism is to judge, to find faults without providing ways to overcome those setbacks of a specified topic.

Critique is positive, looks at structure, finds what's working, highlights honestly and objectively, is positive even about what isn't working in the artwork, is concrete and specific, addresses only what is provided not what isn’t.

My Personal Progress Thanks to Feedback

Growing as an artist is one of the most important things we can do. For myself, stagnating on progress causes me to lose enthusiasm to continue a project. It's why I don't like making earrings - I don't enjoy making the same thing twice! It's also why, for the past handful of years, when I pick up a craft kit I tend to change a lot of small details to personalize it.
Today's article is all about me - how prodding from the community helped me grow into the artist I am today. If it wasn't for DeviantArt I would, in all likelihood, still be content with a few blurry photos and my immediate family's nods of approval.

This community helped me most with Photography.
The most readily observable improvement is my ability to take a picture. This is for the obvious reason that online the only way I can properly show you my craft is to take a nice photograph. It's quite unreasonable for me to insist everyone come over to my home or rent a gallery

As part of Community Engagement Week I'm here to discuss how to deal with unwanted contact on DA.
It's unfortunate but true, trolls and bullies do happen on DA, just as they do any other part of the internet as well. As nice as it would be if we could magically make them disappear from the site, there are other things we can do to help prevent or minimize unwanted contact with these types of people. Today I hope to share some tips and options that may help you have a more peaceful DA experience, hopefully free or mostly free of unwanted contact.

This week is will run between Oct 8 - 12th, and it's a very special week - it's totally about you.

We all wish sometimes that some things on DA were different - there are features we're not big fans of, there's too much of this and too little of that. We find workarounds, we look for solutions, we scour the FAQ and journals for answers to our burning questions. Guess what - this week, many of said questions will be answered in an easy and accessible way. We'll post detailed articles, we'll have challenging and unique contests, and we'll invite you to talk with us in the #projecteducate chatroom for a community feedback event.

In this article we'll talk about how to customize your DA experience, but the also important subtitle is:
What customization options would YOU like to see?
However to start, we're going to look at a few ways you can customize DA. For this I recently made a journal showing one way I make DA more to my personal liking (which I'm sharing here too), and asked other deviants to share some of their own customizations. So let's get to it!
What's within DA
Since it's likely some new deviants will come around, I'll start with the options DA itself gives you in the User Settings menu. Don't worry, I won't take too much of your time with this one.

We're all members of the same community, but when you want to be noticed as a person and an artist, it's important to engage in and with the community.
I know it's scary to put yourself out there and we're all introverts hiding behind our computers, tablets or smartphones, but you need to give a little before you start reaping the rewards.
There are many ways to do this; comment on other artists' work, create a journal feature, join a group, become an admin of a group, walk into an active chat, answer or start a forum thread, etc.
