Description
My second and last team for now. Incase anyone's wondering, Raef's tails are white in the info box because the pokedex claims their tails start out as white and gain number and color as they grow older. Also, the orphanage in question that took them both in is the Ywaru Orphanage. The pokemon whose silhouette appears in Cosmo's info box is supposed to be Seren, who runs and owns the orphanage. She doesn't belong to me and is an NPC from the creators of . I think. I also forgot to put it in the Art Application but both Raef and Cosmo were adopted by the same couple, but they were close long before that.
Oh yeah, and the Writing Area this time around is supposed to be setting the scene for the Chapter 3 intermission, which is what I'll be working on next.

RAEF
Species: Vulpix
Age: 16 Gender: Male
Description: A vulpix who has the fur on the top of his head styled in chonmage. His meowth heritage caused his ears to be black on the outside and for his tail to be curled forward and tipped in brown. The white patch of fur on his underbelly stretches all the way to the bottom of his nose. He wears a necklace made of black silk with a red jewel which he inherited from his biological mother. Personality wise, Raef is very brave and determined, but can also be very reckless and will often act first and ask questions later. The death of his biological parents at the hands of a witch has also left him with a mistrust of magic and magic users in general, along with the desire to become a witch hunter one day.

He is usually seen with a brown messenger bag and is in charge of bringing the supplies on missions. He is usually very calm and cheerful and is more likely to stop and consider things before taking action, often stopping his more reckless teammate from hurting himself. He loves stargazing and thanks to the encouragement of his adoptive parents can often be seen drawing charts and maps of the night sky.

The sun was shining brightly over the marketplace this morning, with a soft breeze rushing through the area ever so softly, keeping the shoppers from getting too hot as they hurried from one store to the next. It was what Raef considered a perfect day, and just the thing he needed to chase away the grogginess from having to wake up early to go shopping for his parents. They were busy at the local theatre and had sent Raef and his brother to do it instead.
His brother in question had just walked out of the apothecary, carrying a bag of herbs in one hand. "Well, that's done," said the cleffa, rubbing his eyes sluggishly, "Now all that's left is to pick up some berries and we can go home. You're buying this time." Raef let out a sigh, his adoptive brother always insisted on this at some point every time they went shopping: Even though it was easier for him to carry the money and groceries since he actually had hands, Cosmo always thought it was unfair if he bought everything himself because then he 'was doing all the work while Raef stood around doing nothing.'
"Fine," he said, too tired to form an argument this early in the morning. He craned his neck out slightly so that Cosmo could put the basket with the money around it. The star-shaped pokemon had just finished doing so when Raef spied a familiar face looking at them through the crowd. "Flam!" cried Cosmo, as the aromatisse ambled through the crowd. Cosmo and Raef knew the fae bird thanks to their parents, who were dancers and thus had close ties to the writer-along with the other members of the Artisans Guild-despite not being members of the guild themselves. There was another pokemon close behind him, a lucario who wore a tunic and armbands made of leaves, the spike on her chest poking through the tunic.
"Morning, you two," he said as he was within earshot "I hope I'm not interrupting anything?" "Not at all," replied Cosmo "Who's your friend there?" "Oh, this is Gemma. she is the proxy and apprentice of the Keepers Guild," answered Flam, urging the lucario closer "She is also the adopted daughter of the Lady Sela, current head of the Guild." Raef was a little taken aback, he had heard rumors that the Keepers practiced magic from to time to time, but Gemma seemed nice enough as she shuffled on her feet. "Oh, Flam," she said "You don't have to be so formal with the introductions, just Gemma would have done."
"Golly, it's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Gemma," said Cosmo, not hiding the awe from his face at meeting the face of the Keepers Guild, "So what brings you here this fine day?" "Oh, well, with all of my duties as a Keeper, I don't get out much. Flam thought it would be a good idea to take a break and get to know some pokemon more," explained Gemma. She stopped and glanced around the bustling street "Plus," she continued in a hushed tone "I would like to ask you something," her eyes darted around the street again. "Do you know if we can talk... privately? It doesn't have to be now, of course..."
"Now is fine," said Raef, the first word he had said since the conversation began, "Our parents won't be back until the evening, so we're in no hurry." He pretended not to notice the stare his brother was giving him for getting out of buying the berries. "Oh, well in that case, how about the local bakery? I have to go pick up some biscuits from there anyway," suggested Gemma. "That would be perfect," replied Raef, "We were going to get breakfast once we were done shopping, but since you're here we might as well go now, I'm pretty hungry anyways. How about you, Cosmo?" Cosmo's glare turned into a look of surprise at the mention of his name before he said "Yeah, me to."
Not even half an hour later the four of them were sitting in a bakery booth sipping on tea and munching on bone-shaped biscuits. They all ate their food in silence until Raef asked the question he was not sure he wanted the answer to, not with the look on Gemma's face "So, what did you want to talk about?" Gemma set her teacup down and gave Flam a nervous glance, he laid an encouraging hand on her shoulder. Not the most comforting sign. "Well," she began, before falling silent again for a few moments, "I hope it's not too personal or upsetting to you both, but we wanted to request something of you thanks to your history with...witches."
History with witches? Was she referring to the events regarding the vulpine witch Morgan or... "What do you mean?" He asked. Gemma's posture was relaxed, and her face was blank, to an outsider she probably looked like she was having a normal conversation. Whatever this was was probably meant to be a secret. "Have you heard of the problems going on in Ywaru recently?" "Aren't they having some sort of water crisis at the moment since the river's been poisoned or something?" Cosmo ventured to ask, casually, as if he was talking about the weather. It seemed as though he was playing along with Gemma's casual act as well.
"Yes, that. Well, we've recently received news of some suspicious activity going on Ywaru, something we suspect may be an unexpected consequence of that," Gemma went on, "The natives didn't tell us about it until recently, but apparently there have been some bodies found out in the canyons. All of them drained of any of their water, most of them water types themselves," She looked down at her tea. "We're not sure, but the locals claim that it could be the work of a witch."
The world began to spin around Raef. "It's not the same one that..." He could not bring himself to finish the sentence. "We think so," said Flam softly "I know it may be hard for you to hear, but we thought that since you survived their magic once-and are a witch hunter in training, at that- that you would be the best suited to deal with this witch- whoever they are." Raef had no words, he was not sure if he could come face to face with the witch who had killed his parents. Not again, no matter how much time has passed.
"Does anyone else know?" Asked Cosmo, his face serious, a strange contrast to his usual dreamy expression. "A few people know," said Gemma, "Like I said before, we're not a hundred percent sure that it's actually a witch. We don't wanna raise any false alarms. Plus, we suspect that the witch may be attacking pokemon because of the lack of water. They don't know how else to get it, so they're taking it from their victims. We're already planning a trip to Ywaru to fix the water issue, so hopefully we'll be able to kill two birds with one stone. You two probably already know this, but Ywaru has become quite corrupt over the years, so everyone will already be on their guard, whether or not they know about the witch."
"But where do we come in?" Asked Raef, his composure finally returned. "We simply want you to keep an eye out for the witch-assuming there is one-and deal with them should the need arise," was Flam's answer, "Helping out with the water issue would also be nice, the sooner we solve the water problem the sooner we get the witch out of our hair." "So will you help us?" Asked Gemma.
The booth fell silent. Cosmo looked uncertainly at Raef. Rae turned it over in his mind, the two guild members looking up at them anxiously. Around the booth the rest of the bakery was warm and pleasant, even when everyone in the booth had dropped the casual act. "You don't have to answer us right away," Said Gemma softly "We know this must be very hard fo-" "I'll do it," Raef declared at last, "I don't know about Cosmo, but I'm in."
The whole booth turned to the little cleffa at that point. He looked at Raef and to the guild members and then back to Raef again, the look of surprise on his face turning into an excited smile as he said "If you're in, I'm in."
"Perfect!" said Gemma, her mood brightening, "We'll send you the information when we-" "But first we'll need to let our parents know," cut in the Cleffa before she got too excited, "We'll send word once we do." "Of course," said Flam. Even though their adoptive parents were perfectly alright with their becoming a team for the guilds and had accepted the fact that they would be out of the house weeks at a time for their missions, they had still wanted a heads up for when they set off on journeys.
It was not much longer that they finished their meals and went their separate ways. The cleffa and the vulpix made their way back to the Berry Seller, where Cosmo had insisted on buying the berries instead because of what Raef had been through that morning. It was a small gesture, but one Raef appreciated nonetheless; he had been inexplicably drained when they walked out of the bakery.
They made their way home in silence, taking in the sights of Tabira as they realized the weight of the situation they were in. "You know, we don't have to do this if you don't want to," Cosmo said as they reached the door. "I'm going," Raef replied firmly, half to convince Cosmo and half to convince himself, "We're going to Ywaru, Cosmo. We're going home and we'll stop the witch."
What an eye-pleasing style!
