Spaghetti and Meatwad
November 2008
Sculpey, acrylic paint, spaghetti

Last night, I bade my wife to get the sculpting materials and told her that we would just free-form sculpt for the hell of it. After I wadded my Sculpey up into a nice ball, still not knowing what I would make, the idea to sculpt Meatwad came to mind.

I didn't look at any reference material for this picture, but I had watched Aqua Teen Hunger Force enough to know most of the details: a smile that curves up beside the eye, with a single tooth pointing downward, the basic lumpiness, and childlike eyes. What I did wrong, in retrospect, was made the face too big and the eyes not obscured by bashful cheeks and brows.

But I think it works, especially as a sort of real-world representation of Meatwad. Add some custom-made spaghetti for him to sit on, and voila! Is it art? Maybe. Do I like it? Yes.

The spaghetti was pretty tasty, too.
