Seven Deadly Sins

By Procrust
Well, as I promised, I mixed all my Deadly Sins together on one piece! Don't see the point to write descriptions, you can read what I think about every sin on separate artworks (see the links beneath).

Hope you like it! Thank that people who waited for every new sin for all the time I've been drawing them  Hope I didn't disappoint you!
Please, don't forget to look through the gallery of my personal "7 Deadly Sins" consultant - Astrkv [link]

Here you can see every sin with description

And Gluttony: [link]
(DA can show only 6 pictures, unfortunatelly)

It is by sheer technique a really good piece, but the main problem with it is the lack of difference between each Sin sans Wrath and Gluttony. The lack of variety is the downfall of this piece and if you ever returned to this piece or similar theme, more variety would be in order to increase the impact. It's difficult to distinguish Pride and Envy for example - they are drawn only with some differences. Another problem that inhibits the impact of your vision so to speak is the lack of variation amongst facial expressions that the Sins are showing.

The prime improvement that can be easily achieved is more diversity amongst the individual design for each sin. The symbolism connected with each sin could also be elaborated upon, making it more distinct or indeed visible - you use them yes, but they aren't always obvious to all. Greed as such is indeed a prisoner of his own desire but is it obvious on the first glance what it's referring to? Probably not without being used to looking for metaphors in art or literature they come in contact with.

Oddly enough, the women for lust is slightly out of place - if not for pride's placement, she would become the focus of the picture by the virtue of being unique amongst seven angels - even then, she still draws attention away from the theme of the art. On the other hand, Gluttony by far is your best character design on the flip side - it is distinct enough without extreme reference.

Your technique is something I would envy were I a artist ... it is in fact brilliant. I have to say it makes the impact greater than it would be otherwise. Your drawing style as well as the actual colour filling was very good indeed, which leaves me nothing to pick at - sans you alternating to a different style slightly, I can't help you there.

The idea itself is rather original as most people do not create Seven Sins as angels, but rather normal humans, making your concept fresh in a sense.

Also, Deathstars are awesome. Did you like "Motherzone"?

Rarely do I give five stars on anything. But this... this is not only spectacular, but I believe it's Daily Deviation worthy, as well. You've captured each of the seven sins fantastically, or, dare I say it - perfectly. I must say, I think I'd succumbed to envy when I first saw this. The detail is superb, and your control over color balance is amazing. You managed to use a lot of bright color while still maintaining a dark atmosphere. All in all, I must say, even though it has over 1,000, this deserves more favourites.

You've done a very good job.

I understand, as I've been offline lately as well. I'm just happy you were able to see it :D

Hello, I would like to use this as an image for an event. Can you please let me know if you have a fee for that? proprietor@loganmansion.com

This is perfect inspiration! I've been planning on designing my own versions of the Seven Deadly Sins as characters, but I had no idea where to start! (Don't worry, I ain't about to plagiarize your work) This pic just gives me some ideas for my own designs! This is awesome, you should be proud!

A long time ago, there used to be EIGHT deadly sins instead of seven. After the schism of the Christian church into the Roman Catholic and Orthodox denominations in the eleventh century, the eighth sin slowly fell into obscurity. The Roman Catholic side decided to remove the eighth sin, while the orthodox kept it (I'm not making this up, look it up if you don't believe me) That eight deadly sin was Despair.

Great piece! Will need to look at each individually and get you take from their descriptions. Have to agree with the critique somewhat except perhaps the point on the distinctions between Envy and Pride as I've always seen them as two sides of the same coin though I don't know if that's where you were going for(as aspects of the one person which it may represent it works well though and i don't agree with the imagery being a problem if people can't distinguish the sins from look alone.). Great original piece overall gave me a bit of insight and inspiration for my own interpretation. Currently in the midst of a project that will heavily employ supernatural elements such as this. instead of being of being ethereal or "angelic," though my pieces depict the constructs of heaven, hell, sin and virtue in more of a cynical and managerial position with the seven deadly sins being casino security making sure only the house is cheating people, however the imagery has given me food for thought. Enough so I can reflect on certain people i know(myself included.) match them to the sin and cross reference it with the kind of figures they "worship".
Sloth is a particular favorite as it immediately reminded me of a mate in my youth who thought he was the Keith Richards:P
Keep up the good work! Will be coming back when I have time to check out more pieces of yours!

This is awesome! Can you make a seven virtues one to go with it? I love that you did it with angels.

Lust has a nice booty doh and Wrath has a killer mowhawk. Greed is a sexy mo fo.
It would be so cool if you now drew the 7 virtues (list on wikipedia, couldn't post the link because the system thought it was spam)

I understand it is a lot of work, and takes a while, but I think the dichotomy in your artwork would be very nice to see. If you chose to do so, good luck! I can't wait!

gluttony is always fat. i picture gluttony as a skinny bulimic, with green stomach acid around his mouth.

beautiful, But the facial expressions lacks in these sins, pride must look from above like he's everything,
envy is skeptical yet sinistre,
lust must be passionate on fire eating from the women's neck, it's like he's sinking into his sin,
wrath ( just look at god of war or WAR character from darksiders game)
....
I love this.  I have been looking for deadly sins men for a while.  First one I found.  Thank You
