I'd suggest you add the Carcolh to the sachamama's family, it's like a giant french snail-dragon.

Huh, I never came across this. Would be interesting to see you illustrate these.

Most of these dragons would have been drawn already. They are all typical mythical dragons.

Not entirely sure. I was basing this purely on mythology, and mythology doesn't really have any reference of people riding dragons or keeping them as pets. That sort of idea is generally from fantasy fiction such as the Pern novels.

You did a good job organizing these. I'm impressed.

There is a nine-headed serpent in Chinese lore known as Xiangliu, which I haven't seen in the list. Maybe it fits better under the Kaijuophidae...

I'll have to give that one a look, maybe it is a subspecies of Orochi?

At least you're not saying they are dinosaurs

Of course not, in my speculative fiction scenario dragons are descended from something like a 6-legged lizard.

I figure that the ancestor needs six legs, one pair of which would evolve into wings. Other kinds lose front or back legs, or even wings, because a simple rule of evolution is, it is easier to lose limbs than grow new ones.

What about Quetzalcoatl?

That one is in my list, in the Amphithere family, that is, no legs, and 1 pair of wings. I would imagine that they had evolved feather-like scales.

How did you rationalize the evolution of the extra limbs, the fire breathing, and the multiple heads of the Hydra?

Well, firstly, the ancestor of the dragons started out like a six-legged lizard, most of the other dragons have simply modified or lost limbs. I'm not sure about the multiple heads, but I think dragons will have a lot of mutations that are unseen in other animals.

No love for Knuckers? Stumpy little water dragons with atrophied wings.

The "new project" from my journal is already done, I just need to post it online, preferably as its own website, it's a bunch of cryptids. Stay tuned.

But the dragon thing may be taken further as a future project, we'll see.

Okay… I’m looking forward to seeing those cryptids then :D

I think that would be a cool idea…. I reckon you could come up with some truly astounding dragons

I would really just be drawing the dragons already on the list, and giving some semblance of natural-looking form and function. Making my own dragons would be a separate thing actually...

I am not sure if I'll draw all of the species I listed, but in my Canon for dragons, this is all the species. I really just wanted to work out the evolution and taxonomy of all of them, before even considering drawing them.

Indeed, indeed (except + the knuckers?)

well, this is the way to go if you want them to be one big family... On the other hand, if you want them to lots of small families..
