Seriously WTF by Pristichampsus Seriously WTF by Pristichampsus
I get sick of seeing blindly ignorant creationists saying "all fossil creatures are fakes fabricated by scientists to fool people", good grief people. Did these idiots ever stop to think that perhaps they are being fooled by the most elaborate piece of mythology in history? Dont get me wrong, I believe in a higher power, just not one that snaps his fingers and makes things magically poof into existence like a Vegas magician.

I've seen a lot of creationists combat this. It's honestly useless to use this argument against them. They've adapted to these antibiotics.

It's beliefs like these that make me question the morals of these people. The Bible teaches tolerance, right? So why are they not being tolerant?

If you believe that all fossil creatures are faked by scientists, then you might as well say that scientists genetically engineered the coelacanth to prove their theory, since living coelacanths were discovered after their fossils.

Doesn't rule out the Omphalos hypothesis, but then, nothing can disprove that, meaning it's not science.

Also, I have a personal hypothesis that "stupid" people like David Icke, Ray Comfort and the like don't really believe what they say, but are simply trying to outdo the other stupid people.

Creationist leaders are most probably lying to simply manipulate people, gain followers, and make money. They are probably lying full aware that they are making stuff up.

They act like in some areas of the US you cannot just pick fossils up along the highway. Grew up in Missouri you can find great fossil beds are where they blasted through hills for the highways. 25 minutes with a hammer and shovel and you are carrying out a bucket of crinoids, ammonites, scallop shells, etc. I know science is good, but we arent that good.

Who do you talk to, seriously that says this stuff? Maybe you need to find smarter creationists. :D

Sadly I've met a couple of creationists who think we faked the fossils too. Generally older ones, but yes, they believe that they can't exist because it would somehow contradict their scriptures…

I'm glad you agree, once you look at it with an unbiased mind, it is plain to see that organisms change significantly over time, even within their own lifetime, so why not a more pervasive change over the generations?

Exactly. Believing in Micro but not macroevolution is like believing in inches but not miles. They won't accept that argument, though, because they claim that those are completely different proccesses. Macro is upward and micro is backward. DX I was arguing with a creationist once who pulled this on me, and I said "Evolution does not have a direction." He replied with something along the lines of "I wish you would stop pointing out nothing. Grow some charity." Whatever the heck that means. This actually happened twice in the course of the same argument. I never fugured out what he meant.

If another person ever says to you "Evolution does not have a direction" again, just point out that random, blind law of physics doesn't have a direction too, but it can produce something as beautiful as ice crystal.

Yeah. I asked a creationist what he thought evolution would be like if he could imagine believing it, he said that it would be "like x-men", what with futuristic eugenic changes and superhumans, I was like wait, what???

Its nice to see a different side of the argument. Why cant evolution and creation both work? Most of the time its one or the other :(

Doesn't it invalidate the Adam and Eve story, though? We're all transitionary forms, slightly different from thwe previous generation, right back to the missing link- so where does Adam and Eve come into the picture?

I have no idea.. Though i bet :icontimehasanend: would be able to talk the hind leg off a chair about it. They're well known on the religion forums for making completely irrelevant arguments and quoting the bible and putting down pretty much anything to do with science.

I'm agnostic as well. I always thought it was really odd though how god is supposed to be an all loving being and yet he basically was like a parent who set their child loose in a playground full of child kidnappers, and then blamed the children for getting kidnapped. (The list for inconsistencies could go on and on by the way!!) And then there is the why wont god heal amputees website. Very interesting read! I do have a lot of religious friends and am quite happy for them to believe what they would like to believe, but I really dislike it when some religions completely discount the proof of evolution all around them.

In other words, perfectly ordinary rationalizations in an attempt to fit the irrational into reality.

My preferred analogy for the original sin doctrine is the following: Suppose you told your child not to pull the pin on the grenade in the room next door, but you omit telling him why- you don't tell him it will blow up in his face and kill him. Then, when he does pull the pin, you blame him and everyone who comes after him for it, when responsibility is really yours.
The bible relies completely on inconsistent reasoning such as this. It has a way of seeing only what it wants to see, and close its eyes on things it dislikes.
