Ichthyovenator laosensis by PrimevalRaptor Ichthyovenator laosensis by PrimevalRaptor

hmmm, you ever wonder if certain bits f plumage might be for carnivores, possibly similar to a birds feathers? That is but for a bit of a different purpose, could it be possible to use their  plumage to create a slipstream, to hide their scent from prey? yes, i know its unlikely but i am curios if such a thing could be done.

Well, those protofeathers are not as specialised/evolved/however you wanna call it (I'm no real expert on that matter. ^^"), but well, Evolution has brought up some interesting things before.

I'd say just like any plumage. Temperature regulation...display function and stuff.

I would almost say, that this could be a male, the females would then probably have smaller feather tufts on the head as the one here. ^^

Welcome. And you make a good pot about the gender. Of course, just like with humans, it is remotely possible (even though it is rare) for a male or female to be borne  look like the opposite gender on the outside while having conflicting "plumbing".

That's an interesting question, wether this happend to archosaurs, too...

Indeed. I've been thinking about that since last year. And seeing as archosaurs can be borne as conjoined twins with two heads/two individual personalities, the gender mix-up is a plausible outcome. Not to mention the fact that "homo"sexuality isn't that rare in avian dinosaurs like penguins, black swans, seagulls and vultures.
