Last Friday we started the Single Tree challenge, where group members go out, take up to three pictures of a tree that they like and then submit the images with a small write up. Here are the completed results from the challenge! Some members submitted shots of different trees and in those cases I cut it down to the best tree featured to keep those shots cohesive.

For this shot I wanted to capture the immensity of the branches of this tree, really it is grand when seen live. Highlight its height, strength, and multiple arms.

On this shot, I focused all attention on this great tree, his greatness. Leaving totally clear sky and earth.

If there's anything I find really cool about trees, it's that they are tall and tough. This tree in particular has a special place in my heart for being one of the oldest trees in my area. I wanted to focus on height at first, but I realized that strength is nice point to emphasize too. It took loads and loads of wet snow to snap those branches. It has been weathered and cracked through rain and wind, yet it still continues to grow. Trees aren't strong because they can't be damaged. They are strong because they know how to handle damage.

A long dead tree frozen in it's reach to grasp the moon.

In these, I focused on a cloudier, more sinister feel.

When I went to Bryce Canyon National Park, I felt very inspired.
On this photo I wanted to show the relationship between the tree and the rocks, this old tree inked in the ground and overhanging the canyon like the Hoodoos.

Thanks to all those who participated!!! We will be doing more group challenges to help inspire our works to grow better with time. Hopefully you find some inspiration in your fellow group members through the images they created above!
