Religion This deviation may or may not contain material that offends you or your beliefs. Read the whole thing first and then comment if you want.
Okay, so I will now write about religion. The religion I am most familiar with (and the one everyone shoves down my throat) is Christianity. I am NOT against Christianity, actually. I am completely okay with talking and being friends with people who are Christians. However, it seems that once you tell them you are an atheist, some of them think you are a horrible Satan-worshipper and they try to 'fix' you. I realize that not all Christians are like that. I have some Christian friends that are fine with people not believing in a deity. These are things that Christians have said (the ones that push religion down your throat). I am writing this from an atheist's point of view.
1.) You don't believe in God? You're going to Hell.
First off, telling someone who is an atheist that they are going to Hell is rea
HonestyTo anyone who wants to claim that 'reparative' therapy (to convert homosexuals to heterosexuals) should be legal for minors: at least be honest about what you support.
Systematically dehumanizing patients by telling them that they are dirty, broken, and shameful. Verbal abuse is a central part of the therapy.
Isolating patients from their friends and family and removing any methods of contact like phones and computers. Only approved people are allowed to be contacted at all. Phone calls are often monitered by therapists, violating any hope of privacy. Letters are read before being sent and, if the counselor does not approve of the content, they are discarded.
Coercing frequent confessions from the patients about how they are sinful or worthless. Often privileges like the ability to contact family or leave the facility are withheld until the counselor feels the patient expresses e
Disagree w/ religion isn't disliking the religiousI previous did a stamp in which I said “disagree is not dislike” speaking to the many, mostly conservatives from what I see, with the tagline “Liberals hate me”.. just because you disagree with someone on certain issues, does not mean that you dislike them as a person. I have several conservative friends that I either disagree with on almost all political issues but they can have a good time outside of that field.. or I may disagree with them on a few issues, and agee with others.
While one would imagine that this is a very simple concept to grasp. I have been seeing some postings on a few pieces on this site, and on youtube videos that I follow about if you are an atheist [agnostic atheist for me] then you must not only disagree with a religion but you must have a deep hatred for the followers of that religion.
I was going to make this into a stamp but I did not like the way it came out so will just write this…
It would seem a simple concept enough.
Heterosexuality: A sin.Hello, I'm straight.
And I am regularly asking God, why he'd decide to be so cruel as to make me this way? It isn't any fair. In a world where everybody is homosexual. It is so hard for me. They point at me and whisper behind my back. Calling me nothing more than an animal. An animal! They say that if God intended us to be mindless animals that he wouldn't have given us the minds or the ability to create life without performing animalistic sex acts. They call me unnatural. What's wrong with me? Why am I this way? I sometimes wish I were a lesbian. Or at least bi-sexual. Although those poor souls are often being picked on for not "making up their minds". I cannot help how I feel. I cannot help who it is that I fall in love with, cannot control their gender any more than I can control my own.
Oh God. If I could be a homosexual, don't you think that I would?? To fit in, to be normal. I feel so conflicted. All my life I have been bought up to know that homosexuality was the norm
Son of an AtheistMomma, is there a God?
No, honey there isn't.
...Why would you say that Momma?
Because I refuse to worship an imaginary man living in the sky.
Well, prove that god doesn't exist.
Alright, I'll do that as soon as you prove to me there aren't any green swans, unicorns, or leprechauns.
Difficult, isn't it?
Essentially, the burden of proof is on the person claiming that something does exist.
But if you believe in god, you go to heaven. If you don't, you go to hell. If God doesn't exist, you die whether or not you believe. So why not believe in God just in case He exists?
Two simple reasons why not: It wouldn't be possible to truly believe based simply on a decision to believe and God would easily see through this ploy, unless he's extremely stupid.
But the evidence is everywhere, you just need to believe first.
Essentially, you're saying that I need to be biased and interpret everything with my "God Glasses" on.
