I was a Soldier...Fine strands of silky thread
carved profound furrows
into rosebud cheeks
They left canyon trails
torn up by ocean water,
and cast aside like waves
It framed golden emeralds
surrounded by waxy lashes
long and lush and tearful
A vision pure and deadly,
with wild quivering lips,
closed teeth in a ghastly smile
Metal shocked the carpet
nestled between oily jaws,
and inflamed by noxious fumes
One curve of bone, still
against the satin pillow
was highlighted by the moon
On the vicious slant,
scrawled in flaking cursive,
laid the nightmare words
"In my dream I was a solider,
and in my dream I died."
