Arrested Sunset
We walked beside the duckpond, mother and I, as we made our way through the woods. Spring had turned everything green and lush, the bees stirring and the water shimmering- glistening in the sunshine. The morning chill had burned off while we walked through forest and fields. I danced my way up to the top of hill, grinning as the Angel Oak came into sight across the valley. I looked back at my mother and she nodded, waving me off. Smiling, I sprinted to the edge and dove into the air. I could hear mother’s laughter as I spread my wings and soared above the treetops. A few moments later I saw her from the corner of my eye- flying behind me, ...

Fleeting Illumination
Traveling afar
Through meadows and mossy bogs
Ghostly lights appear
Utterly awestruck
Stepping further in the gloom
Following blindly
Like wisps of cool fire
Unearthly and alluring
Dream-like in the night
Glimmering beacon
A flash of gossamer wings
And it’s dark again

Late October
October rain spills on top of fallen leaves; puddles of water over red, orange and yellow. Glassy pools of color raging in a last flourish of life. The drops are cool on the tongue and refreshing- sending a shiver down my spine as they drip down my neck. Autumn's rushing wind Little lakes of brilliant hues Fields of thriving corn.

a healing harmony
"Take it." I wanted to succumb to the darkness then. I welcomed the emptiness of death's embrace. The pain... the bloody pain . Nagini's venom would kill me, this I knew, I was already to week to move, didn't have my wand, had no potions, nothing but agony . I stared into the eyes of Harry Potter and for the briefest of moments I imagined I was looking at Lily. With the last of my strength I gave him my memories then closed my eyes for what I thought would be last time.My trip beyond the veil was interrupted- rudely I might add- by none other than Hermoine Granger. The witch slapped me, shouted in my face. "Professor, please. Snape!" ...

swirling duet
Whispered filigree,
when he sings to me,
his sound...
croons a symphony,
makes me want to be...
unbound.
Soft sung notes a plea,
falsetto carefree,
abounds.Our duet lovely,
a quiet medley,
astounds.
Our voices carry
up into the trees,
spellbound...
and we stare at the
whispered filigree.

my last poem of 2017
My words are a mystery, creeping, crawling,
with punctuation that goes nowhere,
you'll find the cadence not appalling,
and sneer at my ellipsis love affair...
rhyme schemes cascade and go out to play,
see-saw scrawl beyond compare,
pretty sonnet led astray,
using every syllable to ensnare.couplets, quatrains, my muse walks in and out,
emotions running from elated to despair,
imagery aglow and alliteration all about
fixed form like a free verse nightmare.
Stanzas running amok, narrative afterglow,
here come the words, grammar nazis beware,
we have the meter and we have the flow,
using every syllable to ensnare.
