Glaciophobos, like askewbugs I described before is another creature from planet Ullr. It is big predator growing to 5 meter long and 2 tons weight. It can be described as vertebrate like creature, because it is big and have internal skeleton, resembling these of Earth vertebrates but made of proteins and metal, not calcium salts like ours. Of course it also have methanol diluted in body to protect it from freezing, but it is warm blooded creature. Its skin is covered by fur and it has body temperature about 5 Celsius grad, what among Ullr life is high.
Glaciophobos lives in Ullr southern ice savannah, where it is the biggest predator. Ice savannah is always frozen, and methanol filled, freeze proof plants grow here just in ice. Life on Ullr is amazingly cold proof, but of course there is much less life than on Earth. Ullr is very cold planet, less life friendly than Earth. Most of its environments looks like Earth Tundra, or even ice sheet. Only in equatorial area is one small ocean not covered by ice, and are forests where most of the time water don’t freeze. It’s the richest of life environment on Ullr, similar to Earth Taiga.
Ullr land “vertebrates” evolved from mudskipper like creatures, so “reptilian” creatures here have only two legs and usually long, tail like abdomen (Ullr creatures never developed real tail). Hind legs evolved on gecko resembling, tree climbing creatures as a duplication of front legs. It proved as a big advantage because with four legs they could much better adhere to tree branches. All four legged creatures from Ullr are descendants of these Ullr “geckos”. It has sign in their foot anatomy, because they still have adhesive, gecko like lamellas on fingers instead of claws (what two legged creatures have).
Glaciophobos legs are curiously specialized, because it walks on two legs like Ullr “reptiles”, but it walks on hind, additional legs, which “reptiles” doesn’t have. Front legs of this predator are fingerless and covered by sharp tooth like thorns. It uses it like mantises or whip spiders to catch prey, but don’t consume it alive like these arthropods, but kill it first. Sometimes squeeze it to suffocate, sometimes break its bones by hitting it into tree trunks or ice or when prey is small enough it just smashing it. Young Glaciophobos haven’t so specialized first pair legs, they still have adhesive fingers on it, and don’t have thorns. When they are young they are feed by their mother, in a little parasitic way. When mother eats killed prey, its young try to eat it simultaneously. When it develops thorns and muscles strong enough to hunt independently, mother don’t accept this kind of theft anymore and chases out its adolescent offspring from its territory.
Its hunting method can be described as reverse of that used by Tyrannosaurus. Tyrannosauruses used only jaws to kill and their useless hands become very small. Glaciophobos uses only hands to kill so its useless head become very small. Its head is particularly strange in humans view because it is human head size and have very humanoid appearance.
fav.me/d33zyiq Usually when we see human like face, we suspect that creature what have it is intelligent. So huge, aggressive and absolutely stupid monster with human like face is creature with very disturbing, and scary appearance.
Ullr “vertebrates” have four eyes, which evolved from compound, stalked, crab like eyes. Eyes are still compound but their stalks are deep in their skull, and whole eye can be covered by movable eyelid. So their eyes resembling normal ball shaped eye of earth vertebrates, but eyeballs are in fact compound eyes. Vision of these creatures is not as good as ours. Their main sense is smell, detected not by their respiratory system, but by four long tongues, working similar to tongue of earth snake, but with olfactory receptors on their surface (they don’t have any vomeronasal organ). Their respiratory system was primarily connected to digestive system, but finally entirely separated. They breath through single nostril in their upper lip. They have four insect like mandibles. First pair is bigger, used for biting off food pieces, second pair is much smaller, situated inside first pair, between four tongues, and is used for chewing food before swallowing it.
