The Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park encompasses two active volcanoes: Kīlauea, one of the world's most active volcanoes, and Mauna Loa, the world's most massive shield volcano. Kīlauea is an active shield volcano in the park. Halemaʻumaʻu is a pit crater within the much larger Kīlauea Caldera. On December 20, 2020, an eruption broke out within Halemaʻumaʻu. The volcanic activity seen here is from Halemaʻumaʻu.
