The little grey fox sat in the tall grass atop his favorite knoll, alone. He sighed again
as he looked out over Sapphire Lake and the surrounding neighborhoods. Where had
all his playmates gone?
One little cat in particular the fox missed most of all. She was always easy to pick
out on a playground full of other kids. He flicked his ears thinking of her. They still
had flecks of green and yellow paint stuck to the fur from where one of the other kids
had painted them during the big water-balloon fight. It was only coincidence that they
almost matched the bright green and yellow of his friend's hair. That and her teal fur
were what drew the eye even from up here. That bright hair really lit up in the sunshine!
The fox did not see those bright colors anywhere around now. After all this time he did
not really expect to. "I wonder if Max knows where she disappeared to," the little fox
