I've been "doing art" my whole life. My mother tells people I was a car hop at the hamburger joint when I was 4 years old. I remember drawing pictures of what the person wanted and giving it to my mother (I didn't know at the time that she sent the 'real' car hop out to take the order first!). When she made the order, the customer had the option of paying an extra dollar for my artwork. I guess the child labor laws were a little less strict in the 1950's. LOL!
I went to a Catholic school, and the art department left a little to be desired, so my father enrolled me in a correspondence course at Art Instruction Schools. That was fun. Back then, the courses offered were instruction in techniques such as pen and ink and pencil. I've taken Photoshop classes at the local community college, but I'm mostly self-taught.
I've done calendars, greeting cards, book covers, post cards, and some fine art work. I've also done some more "crafty" things like glass painting and airbrushing. I think my two favorites were the feathers I painted and a painting I did on glass for my mother. That one was the hardest because it involved painting the image in reverse so the painting was showing through the glass when I framed it.
I've done pen and ink, colored pencil, charcoal, pastels, air brushing, computer graphics, acrylics, glass painting and etching, ceramics... basically, if it would stand still long enough for me to put a picture on it, I did!
Lately, I've really gotten into Mail Art. Although, my scanner doesn't work, so I have no examples on here. ... I want to get another scanner so I can show you some of my fantastic Mail Art envelopes and post cards!
I do custom work, from retouching photos to book covers to commercial advertising. If you like what you see here, shoot me an email. Let's talk!
