My Bio

I've been "doing art" my whole life. My mother tells people I was a car hop at the hamburger joint when I was 4 years old. I remember drawing pictures of what the person wanted and giving it to my mother (I didn't know at the time that she sent the 'real' car hop out to take the order first!). When she made the order, the customer had the option of paying an extra dollar for my artwork. I guess the child labor laws were a little less strict in the 1950's. LOL!
I went to a Catholic school, and the art department left a little to be desired, so my father enrolled me in a correspondence course at Art Instruction Schools. That was fun. Back then, the courses offered were instruction in techniques such as pen and ink and pencil. I've taken Photoshop classes at the local community college, but I'm mostly self-taught.
I've done calendars, greeting cards, book covers, post cards, and some fine art work. I've also done some more "crafty" things like glass painting and airbrushing. I think my two favorites were the feathers I painted and a painting I did on glass for my mother. That one was the hardest because it involved painting the image in reverse so the painting was showing through the glass when I framed it.
I've done pen and ink, colored pencil, charcoal, pastels, air brushing, computer graphics, acrylics, glass painting and etching, ceramics... basically, if it would stand still long enough for me to put a picture on it, I did!

Lately, I've really gotten into Mail Art. Although, my scanner doesn't work, so I have no examples on here. :-( (Sad) ... I want to get another scanner so I can show you some of my fantastic Mail Art envelopes and post cards!

I do custom work, from retouching photos to book covers to commercial advertising. If you like what you see here, shoot me an email. Let's talk!

Navigating DA

0 min read
Sometimes, visitors have told me it's hard to navigate this site. There's not much I can do about that, but here are a few tips:My gallery is here: http://prairiekittin.deviantart.com/gallery/On the left, there are a series of folders. These are divided into categories like "fairies", "cover art", etc. There are some pictures that fit into more than one category, so they will be duplicated in each folder. The journal, here, is mostly talking/complaining about Photoshop or comments on how a particular picture was made: An insight into my methods and a place for me to vent my frustrations while learning new software. Read at your own risk.

https://www.anneortelee.com/articles/Quoting the article above:Weekly Weather April 4, 2011We have a once in 164 year event taking place this week as Neptune, the planet of our dreams, illusions, delusions and what we worship enters ethereal and dreamy Pisces. Neptune has a 15 year journey through the last sign of the zodiac, the very end of things. He love, love, loves being in the sign of his ruler, the deep wide and wild ocean that connects and swirls around all of us and the continents we live on. Fully ¾ of the earth's surface is water ~ Neptune's realm. We humans are not 100% comfortable in the ocean, becoming part of the food chain ...
