Will be in Long Beach, then driving up to San Francisco. Give me ideas for things to see and places to do!
I haven't written a journal entry in a while, but I needed to do this one. I'll be in Dallas for A-Kon on the 9th and 10th this month, I'm hosting a panel on comic page layouts (the same panel I did two years ago, which was really fun) so stop by and join in if you're going to be around. I won't have a table this year, but I'll probably have some zines and business cards (and maybe left-over bookmarks if I can find them) if anybody wants some.

Thank you all, and see you soon!
The books are here and I hope to mail them out this week.
I don't have a car this week, but I'll try and figure something out before the weekend.
The new copies of Long Arm are being printed now. Hope to have them by the end of the month and on their way to everybody who ordered. A big thank you to everybody bought one!
I decided to reprint my 144 page volume of Long Arm, if you're interested please say so. It is VERY unlikely there will be a future reprint, so consider this a last chance if you missed out before. I'm only planning on printing as many as people will take, so do comment if you want one - there will not be extras.

Cost will probably be $9 per book and $3 for postage/packing. I'll happily sign every copy I send out. Thanks!
Have one slot open again, for $50. This can be either one colored or black and white finished piece (background, one or two characters, and such) or two black and white character sketches, with no background.  Comment or send me a message if you want it!

Commissions closed. Be ready next time!
I'm really sorry to not have updated much recently, but I've been pretty busy.  I've been doing some illustrations, and I'm really excited to show off this article:…

Please take a look and see what I've been up to recently.

Also I just got back from visiting a friend in Okinawa, and stopped off in Tokyo for a couple days too! I took a lot of photos and will be posting them on my flickr:…

So take a look if you like that sort of thing. I'll posting new drawing and comics here soon over the next few months, so I hope you're all still hanging around.

I'll be deciding winners soon and awarding prizes.  I hope everybody had fun, I enjoyed seeing everybody's designs.
Reminder: just a few more days left!
Important update: please post a link to your character design in the comments so I can easily find all entries, thanks!

So there are plenty of sexy female characters in games. Some would say too many. But when game designers bring us sexy men - prudes and homophobes complain and the developers start covering them up.

So I decided a good contest would be designing sexy male game characters. What you consider sexy is up to you - but I encourage tight outfits, skin, and scanty armor that leaves the sexiest parts of the body visible. If there is any design cliche of sexy female characters you like, by all means incorporate it into your man's outfit. Make them eye candy. Don't forget though they need their weapons and other game items, if they don't look like they're on some sort of quest they won't be sexy video game characters, they'll just be sexy.

Deadline: July 8th.
Prize: I draw your character + you get a totally cute art set thing.
I want to do a new contest, I have a couple of prizes like a really cool eraser/pencil set that I want to give away. I'm not sure what I want to do though. Character design contest? Or a draw one of my characters contest? Or? Best background contest? Best short comic contest?

What sort of theme would my watchers like to see?

PS: It seems that Inkblazers which was formerly MangaMagazine is going to shut down. After several years of running the site the project has run out of money, and it seems they were unable to find a way to make the site profitable and self sustaining. It's very sad to watch even though I parted ways with site over a year ago. Long Arm is of course still viewable on smackjeeves, or more ideally in (the edited and upgraded) book form (I still have a couple copies available ;3). I have a couple ideas for Long Arm one-shots but I've decided that I won't be pursuing any hopes of bringing it back as a serial comic. Too many new ideas on my plate now.

PPS: Somebody ordered a copy of the Long Arm book and sent payment, but never sent me a mailing address. If that was you please contact me so I can send you your book!
I'm back from A-kon, and I've packed up the pre-orders - that means I'm ready to sell the remaining copies of The Essential Book of Long Arm.
Book cost is $11, postage costs are $3.99 for the U.S. and $4.99 for Canada. I can mail elsewhere just let me know and I will look up the postage costs.

The book is 144 pages so it's a pretty big chunk of comics for $11 these days. I'll be happy to sign copies at your request. The first five orders will get a laminated bookmark included for free.

If you want a copy just send me a PM!

Thanks! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
Just wanted to update everybody on A-kon status!

Yes it's coming up pretty quickly! I'm going to be there, I have a table I will be sharing with :iconsoulkarl: - and I will be presenting a couple of panels.

On Friday I will be doing a presentation on page and panel composition. I won't be trying to give any "one best way!" to approach making pages, rather just sort of discussing a bunch of different ideas about how to layout a page and compose your panels and one can take from it what they want to. This is more a presentation for those who are new to making comics, but it may be interesting to the more seasoned creators as well.

On saturday I will be running an inking workshop. Everybody will get to use a variety of dip pens, there will be paper and ink, etc. I'll be handing out a zine version of my dip-pen beginner's guide and it will be pretty fun. There are only limited supplies! So if you want to participate check the schedule and be sure to show up.

Unfortunately my job has been busting my butt, so I didn't have time to finish putting together Uzumaximum for preview. But I will still have printed pages of a couple of submissions on hand for those who want to see them. I will also have the new copies of Long Arm, a few copies of Big Dumb Book, and some zines, bookmarks, postcard prints, etc. So you'll want to stop by and take a look.

See ya there!
It's now at the printers and will be ready to ship at the end of the month. I'll be saving most of the books for A-Kon in Dallas in June. But I'm going to let three copies be reserved for those who want them as soon as they arrive.

The book is 144 pages long, and has been edited for faster flow and easier reading. Additionally many pages have been touched up to improve the artwork, speech bubbles, etc. It contains chapters one through eight, plus the onsen trip comic. There are also some sketches and illustrations included.

For the pre-order the cost is only $13 including shipping (in the U.S.) - send me a note if you want a copy!
So submissions to Uzumaximum are now closed. I got a lot of submissions! But since they were all short, I don't think it will be necessary to "edit" anybody's story out of the book. Thank you everybody who participated. I hope to have the book finished and ready to read by June.

In other news, I was carjacked yesterday. They took my keys, the car, and some stuff that was in the car - cameras and junk. I got some bruises and scrapes (from being punched then pushed on the ground) but I am ok otherwise.

Thank you all, and keep busy!
I wanted to do an update on the Uzumaximum tribute project. The deadline is now March.

Uzumaximum is going to be a collection of comics and art inspired by Junji Ito and Japanese horror manga. Do you want to submit a comic? Here's the basics of what you need to know:
  1. All comics must be in greyscale/black and white. No color.
  2. The comics will be printed in the standard comic book format of 6x9 - although we're not settled on a printing service yet, this template will help you format your pages:…
  3. All comics are subject to approval - I will be editing this project. Basically a comic needs to meet the above specifications and a minimum standard of quality.
  4. Additionally the comics need to be original creations inspired by Junji Ito's work - not fan comics that lift characters, stories, or specific settings from his work - unless it is a parody which is poking fun at something specific from one of his stories.
Any additional questions send them to me in a note. I am busy but will be happy to help you work on a story that will fit this project. In addition to the guidelines for submitting above, contributors will be able to purchase as many books as they want at cost to resell for whatever price they want. Please keep in mind this is NOT a job, but rather a project for fans to cooperate on. Additionally if the volume is high enough I will run a kickstarter to pay for an ISBN and printing a free copy for every contributor.

I will be releasing the comics this summer, probably at A-kon.

I hope this helps everybody who has had questions about the project. Thanks! ☆ミ(o*・ω・)ノ
I hope this gives everybody time to finish their comics and illustrations.
If you still want in, send me a note. If you have finished material let me know, I might like to use it for a kickstarter video.

Thanks again!
It's been a while since I cleaned up my gallery, so I'm probably going to delete some stuff soon. I'm going to clean up scraps too. Just giving a warning so that if there is anything you really like, you should go ahead and save it now before it disappears forever.
I'm giving away a pen holder and a set of five Eagle E10 Falcon dip pen nibs to go with it:… All you have to do if you want a chance to win them is comment on this journal saying you want them. Then on October 6th I will use a random number generator to generate a post number, and whichever post number that is will win the pens. ☆ミ(o*・ω・)ノ

Also, my comic Long Arm was nominated for the Smackjeeves awards last year... and they finally got the finalists up for voting! So now you can vote for Long Arm if you want to:…
They've made the rules for voting a bit confusing (to encourage people to actually look at the comics instead of just voting for the most popular titles) so be sure to read the rules before casting your votes. Long Arm is in the comedy category, as are a few other funny comics.

PS: the winning insect kemonomimi was this beautiful guy:…
