I don't really phrase it that way... but I've come across a few artists who are very toxic yet have nice/amazing artwork. I avoid people who are toxic/rude/drama-starters because why would I want to be around that??? That just puts unnecessary stress onto myself even if I'm not involved, because its in my inbox.
I will admit I was rather cringey and probably a drama-starter years ago on this site, but I've matured a lot since then and simply don't care about a majority of drama that goes on around me. I also try my best to brush off people that try to start drama with me... because honestly who cares? They can dislike me and try to pit people against me all they want but lol I'm just going to block them and move on with my day.
personality =/= art the world's most amazing artist could be a bullshit person, and that's just that. whether or not it's rude matters, it's about facts. like....art and personality are so separate. why even put them on the same level lol
ive personally never heard that phrase but i think art is irrelevent when it comes to the artists personality! If i find that an artist is rude or too crude for my liking then i will unwatch, regardless of art ability.
I don't use that exact phrase because it's a quite rude way to put it, but there is no denying that some artists exist out there whose art is wonderful while they themselves are not good people. It's sad to say but it is true.
Of course, if it's just a matter of their personality not being compatible with mine then I am not going to look down on them or attack them as a person, because that's just their personality and you can't relate to everyone you come across. However, if they are someone who does horrible things to people (intentionally rude/immature, threatens others, intentionally hurts others, intentionally starts drama among groups, etc.) then it is valid for someone to make a point of saying that "their artwork is nice but I do not personally support their behavior/personality."
i mean criticizing art and personality are different things. i follow alot of artists i think aren't the best people but only when they're complete cunts would i unfollow. their personal life shouldnt really matter unless they did something super fucked up. like death threats. or i dunno. whatever you personally think is super duper wrong. yea but if i find out an artist i like gets defensive and sassy sometimes i literally dont give a fuck because it's probably just someone exaggerating one time they did it and it just leaks out into this stupid drama filled bullshit. i've heard my handful of rumors from you but what the fuck do you expect from a well known artist, what that you're just gonna take all the hate you get? it's normal to react irrationally when threatened. doesnt make it okay but im pretty sure we all do things that aren't okay :/
I'm fine with people's personalities, unless it causes harm to themselves or to others. In that case though, don't just call their personality bad and then only enjoy their art though?? Maybe suggest ways they can improve on it so they're an even cooler dudeo. Or just gently bring their attention to it so they know it's unhealthy.
Back to this, though. Even if their personality is bad and their art is good, don't say it. It just seems incredibly rude. Enjoy their art but don't go back-talking them because they've got an unhealthy/toxic personality.

ive used this phrase once in my life but usually a shitty personality deters me away from anything involving that deviant or person i still think its valid people are shitty but are talented doesnt mean people can't like their art
i don't like it either, i dont really care that much about someone's personality - as long as they feel good abt themselves i feel no need to bash on them for no reason :'0 i like to make personal experiences first before throwing phrases like these around asdnf
