Ready For the World? Freedom. That's what it was all about.  Out there in the uncharted world, nothing was nailed down.  There were no restrictions, only endless possibilities. It was one thing to dream of it, but another to actually take the step forward. It took plenty of time, skill, and patience.  Especially the last part.  Training under the discipline of boring superiors and being forced into doing tedious tasks was common as a proof of patience.  Those were especially mind-numbing...
