Description

Because Noah aged 900 years, but then his descendant lived shorter than him, I dont know why, but it explains why we're so short-lived. Use our time wisely :)
a moment pass and suddenly we're this old.

genesis 11 --->[link]

btw, but of course the end of genesis' 11's genealogy is meant to tell the link between Noah and Abram. Yep Abram is Noah's grandson's grandson's grandson' son's son's son's son' (please continue it yourself), and yea...
If you notice, the land which was promised for Abram was Canaan's another Noah's descendant which was cursed by Noah, hmm the conflict is interesting, although I don't know why it happened...

I'm not sure exactly when God said the 120 years thing, but I have heard it suggested that He was actually setting a date for the flood; a time limit for people to repent (hence "My spirit shall not contend with humans forever"). It may also have had to do with the Nephilim hinted at just before and described (briefly) just after, but with no clear notion what they even were that's harder to say.
