What strikes me in this picture is the combination of beauty and ugliness which you achieve. The blood, the wounds, the blood soken shirt …
This is not the beauty of violence and death. Which you can create, e.g., with a beautiful woman who kills somebody or has been killed, the classical motive of the beautiful corps. These pictures are striking because they put beauty into an unusual context. But usually they don`t incorporate ugliness itself.
This makes it somewhat „easier“ to create a beautiful pic that many people will find appealing.
Here, however, you don`t use just an indication of violence (how did she / he receive those bruises?) but ugliness itself. And that is much more daring, in my mind. In this case it works perfectly. The wounds underline the beauty of the pic and thereby demonstrate not only beauty but courage, too. The true courage of an artist. Or of two artists, to be more precise. Because this spirit can be seen in so many of the pics you two produce.
