Wow...I didn't realize that it's been close to a year since I've done a journal update.  The past few months have been very rough.  I'm slowly working on getting through it and back on track with everything.  I'm on vacation this week at the beach, so that helps. 

I'm currently working on the finial cover for the Lonely World Trilogy.  This one is pretty extensive so it's going to take me a bit to do.  Finding stock has been a nightmare since Dollar Photo Club got bought by Adobe Stock.  While it's not as bad as iStock or some of the other places, Adobe Stock is still pretty high...especially when it's starting at $80 per image for unlimited use & I need a ton of images to make the cover.  The most annoying part is that when I switched over (didn't have much of a choice), they didn't have a rule stating that if you canceled your membership early for any reason then you had to pay $50.  That suddenly popped up about a month ago when I decided it wasn't worth wasting money on images I couldn't use.

I've also got a few other commissions in the works as well.  Once they are all out of the way, I'm hoping that I can get back to a few personal photomanip projects that have been on the back burner.  I am hoping to maybe got to FenCon this year, but more than likely it will be a bust.  I'm looking for full-time work so I'm hoping that I will be working by then.

I'm finally going to be getting to do the makeup shoot for the Silent Prey cover tomorrow, and I'm going to live stream it.  I've never done a live stream, so I'm hoping that I'm able to get it running.  The makeup itself is going to be on the model's hand and arm.  I haven't done makeup stuff in a long time.

Yesterday evening, I was contacted by AngelaLogan & asked if she could use one of my artworks for a Chrome App called Flipper:

The whole payment thing is pretty iffy on it's own and when I visited her profile, I saw that she had been hiding all comments made by other people.  I didn't have a lot of time to take a look at the app page, so I put it off replying until today when I would be able to sit down for a while.  I immediately saw that her account had been deactivated...which is a bad sign.  After looking into it & reading some of the comments left on app comments, it's definetly a scam.  Not only does the app give you a virus, but they weren't paying out a dime to the people who agreed to payment.  dA admins deactivated her account due to complaints.  I ended up using their Suggestion/Problem page to reply to the note I received, making sure that tell them that they didn't have permission to use any of my work.

If you got a similar note about this, do not agree to it & report them to dA.

I've had quite a bit of activity going on lately.  I received Honorable Mention in the 2014 Marcom Awards for the Tears for a World cover.  That got both myself & author Alexander Fernandez very excited.  I am currently working on the cover for the second book of the trilogy.  Aside from a few blasts of snow and ice, I've been pretty busy with stuff from my parenting blog.  My daughter also turned five at the start of the year, and now I'm working on getting everything together to register her for school next month.  She is very smart for her age, and is at the level of at least a 7 or 8 year old...which is awesome but I'm afraid that it might cause some issues in class.  I want to make sure that she's in a faster paced class so that she doesn't get bored and start acting up.

I've got several side projects that I want to work on this year to have available at FenCon this year.  I was also set to attend WhoFest 2 next month & possibly have a rent table, but now I'm not sure if I'm going to go or not.  I would love to get Colin Baker to sign one of the posters though.  I'll know more on that in a few weeks.

I joined deviantArt 6 years ago, looking to start getting my photography & design work out for people to see.  dA has become my go-to resource for stock images, brushes & super helpful tutorials.  I've improved a lot over the years and I never thought that I would be selling my work and getting commissions.

#2.  - This is the best brush pack that I've come across because of the skin brush.  I first used it on the Tears for a World cover, and have been using it since.

#3.  - If you need free use stock, this is the guy to go see.  He has just about anything you can imagine in his impressive gallery...even a school girl battling tentacles (which I am determined to use one day for something).


#4.  - It's Cheeks!  I love his style and the titles of his artbooks.  I even have a Hellboy Animated figured based on his character designs on the shelf in my office.


#5.  - The master of Art Deco posters.  His work is stunning.

Had a bit of a rough Christmas due to a death in the family, but I'm getting back on track now.  I've got a few book cover commissions coming up, but I am still taking orders for some more.  If you are interested, contact me.  This year, I will be working on making some premade covers.  The title & author info will be customizable, and there will be an optional slug as well.  I'll post some more info on that once I get started on them.  I will also be working on creating more stock images and packs.  I don't know if any will be pre-cut, since that takes some time, but I will try to do some.  I'm also open to stock suggestions as well.  There may even be some model stock too.

I do still have all my canvas prints for sale.   I am hoping to set up a mini shop at the Beckham Hotel (Mineola, TX) once it opens back up.  If I do, then I will probably start getting some photo books made.  I would love to do one of just stuff around Mineola and maybe even do a new photo shoot out at the Stock Yards.

I do plan on going back to FenCon this year, and I am already planning out stuff for that since I have a better idea of what will sell this time around.  There is also the possibility of attending the NINC Conference this year as an industry professional.  I would love to go, but it will cost a lot...so it's up in the air right now.

I'm going to have a few things for sale at my table at FenCon next month.  Two of them are going to be printed canvases, and I have absolutely no idea how much to ask for them.  I'll only be able to accept cash or Paypal...so I'm not sure if that limits my options at all.  Here's what I have:

12x18 (currently rolled; will get it put on frame)

I was thinking at least a few hundred for the 16x20.  Not to sure about the other.  How much do people normally charge for them?  I've seen very high prices are galleries but I want mine to be reasonable.

I'm am officially going to be at FenCon X!  I'm sharing a table with T.M. Simmons & will be selling some prints & other stuff, as well as taking commission orders.  I'm working through a few covers right now, them I'm going to get to work on prints and promo material.  I'm also getting a free banner from Signazon.com to display (for a product review on my other blog).

I'm still working on getting everything together to start the Silent Prey shoot.  I'm still looking for nail tips, so I'm probably going to have to go to a salon supply store to get them.  I finally found some liquid latex.  It's Cinema Secrets, so hopefully it's good.  I will be live streaming the day that we are doing the makeup and shoot.  I'll have more info posted once we have a date set.

"This was MyWeekThroughArt. How was yours?"

My next major cover design is going to be for Winter Prey, and upcoming release from T.M. Simmons.  I will be doing a stock shoot for it in the spring & my friend Amanda is going to be my hand model.  With this shoot, I want to try to get as much on her hand to start with so that I'm not spending days trying to find additional stock images & brushes.  The basic idea is to have a gnarly, emaciated hand/arm bursting up out of the ground.  I've already got the nails squared away, but I'm stuck as far as effects on the hand and arm.  I've found a few things online to make dirt smudges & wounds, and I already have fake blood.  I would like to either extend her fingers, find/make some bone prosthetics, or even have a good paint job that I can work off of on Photoshop.  I've never done this before aside from quick makeup jobs for Halloween and I would really like to learn how to do the effect stuff.  Do anyone know a good place to get stuff that's relatively inexpensive or even know how to make prosthetics?  Any suggestions or tips would be much appreciated.

It's been a rough few weeks for me.  My husband's grandmother, Patsy, passed away unexpectedly on November 28th.  She had been going to various doctors over the last year trying to get a sinus infection treated.  They either said she was fine (blowing her off) or attempt to pump her full of antibiotics that she couldn't afford, & eventually started trying to say she had asthma.  She finially gave up and went to the hospital on the morning of the 28th with some chest pains.  She went in for tests and never came back out.  We were told that since the infection wasn't treated it started going into her organs, primarily her heart.  There was nothing they could do to save her short of a heart transplant.  We have all been in shock since it was so unexpected.  My mother-in-law had less than two days to plan out the funeral & try to find accomadations for family that was coming in...plus deal with some family members who were being complete assholes about the whole thing.  For the most part, everyone is doing better now, but we are all very worried about Junior (Patsy's husband/husband's grandfather).  Needless to say, he's not dealing with it well and is lashing out at everyone.

The day after the funeral, I had a follow up with the knee doctor.  Needless to say, the physical therapy is been less than stellar, and I have less than three weeks to get my knee bending better or the doctor will have to go back in and take out scar tissue.  I been working my knee throughout the day and have made great progress, however, I'm in a lot of pain.  I have to keep reminding myself that the alternitive is wearing a brace the rest of my life and not being able to do stuff with my daughter, so I'm getting through it.

During all of this, I have had a ton of cover commissions which have helped keep me occupied.  I've uploaded a few here on the site.  The rest will be on both my blog & Pintrest page.

I had my knee surgery about three weeks ago.  Everything is looking good and I'll be starting phyisical therapy again this week.  My husband was able to take off of work for the first two weeks, but now that he has had to go back, I'm over at my parents house.  I have limited access to the Internet and I'm using a very old laptop at the moment.  I'm trying to get back on my feet enough to be at home by myself so that I can get back to work on commissions.  I have several book covers yet to finish, plus I'm working on a simple web page template/layout for C L Smothers.  Hopefully I can be home in a few days.

I'm going to be having knee surgery on Oct. 3, so I'm going to rush to get my last few commissions done before then.  I expect that I'll be back on my feet somewhat in a week, but I'll be taking it easy for a bit & gearing up for Halloween.  I'm also in the early stages of planning for another cover for T.M. Simmons, titled Silent Prey.  I will be doing some stock shoots for it at some point once I'm back on my feet.  

Also, I won't be going to FenCon this weekend.  It's been too unconfortable to walk around for long periods at a time & I need to try to conserve my cash until we find out how much the surgery is going to be.  Plus, I have a sinus infection on top of everything else...so...bleh.  T.M. Simmons will have a table set up between 4pm & 5pm on Friday.  She will have a few of my covers on display as well as some flyers (if I ever get them done/printed), business cards and a demo book of some of my stuff.  If you happen to be there, stop by and say hi.  I think Trana is going to have some freebie stuff too.

I was going to get some prints done of of my photography to have Trana sell at the table, but Walmart was going to charge me $175 for it.  Anyone know of a place thats cheep or does discounts if you buy in bulk?

I had been hoping to compete in the EMP contest, but alas...I've been buried under cover commissions for the past two months.  Normally I'd have them knocked out pretty fast, but for these I'm creating my own stock.  I've been having to make frequent trips out to Dry Creek Cemetery (in Poetry, TX) to get various shots of grave stones and scenery bits.  I've also been borrowing a large assortment of odds and ends from friends...including poker chips and whiskey bottles.  The hardest part has been trying to find the time to take them.

Most of the stock will be available in packs depending on what it is or what I used it for (exclusive).  The exclusive packs, like this one policegirl01.deviantart.com/ar… , will only be available for use (non-commercial & commercial) if you buy them.  All of these stocks are high quality 300 dpi, and many of them are .PNG format.  I normally try to keep stuff free for the most part, but I've been putting so much time and effort into these that I have to charge for them.  Prices & payment details will be available on my blog gostudios-angela.blogspot.com/… regular ones will be free to use but I must be notified before hand if you want to use it commercially.  

Aside from that stuff, I'm also gearing up for FenCon next month.  I will be sharing a table with T.M. Simmons & displaying a few prints of my covers.  I'll have a book with my photography & design work for people to look through as well.  I'm also considering selling some photography prints.  Any suggestions/picks of which ones I should have printed?  However, I'm not too sure if I'll be there in person or not.  I've spent the last 10 weeksphysicalitherapyarpy for a meniscus tear in my right knee which has completely shredded the cartilage.  It is very painful and I while I have gained back some range of movement, it looks as though I will be have surgery.  I'll find out for sure on the 11th.  So, that leaves most all of September up in the air as far as planning goes.
