I've been off Deviantart for quite a few months, so here's an update:

- first and foremost, if you need to contact me, do not deviantart note me, send me an email at la.poggy at gmail dot com. I always check my email, while my DA notes... not so much, as some of you might have noticed. I'm sorry for the bunch of late answers. So please just use my email address for communication.

- thanks to everyone who commented on the art! There are too many of you for me to reply individually, but I wish I could. <3

- private commissions are currently closed; for professional work you can still refer to my gmail address.

- keep an eye on bidonicart.tumblr.com for the occasional sketch if you're so inclined

I hope to come back with some exciting news art wise in a few months. Thanks for watching!

You know what is perfectly legitimate? Disliking a character. To each their own, different strokes, etc.

You know what is NOT COOL? Raging character bashing while commenting fanart of said character. Especially if you resort to slut shaming, wishing rape or death on him/her (but let's face it: it's almost always a "her", why am I not surprised?), etc.

Please be better than that.

So, A Dance with Dragons is finally out, I've read it all and I'm ready to unleash some fanart still warm from the oven(*), BUT, even if I'm going to mark them as spoilers in the title, I wanted to do preview thumbnails to avoid people being accidentally spoiled. So... how the hell do I do it? Is it even possible? Lol, all these years on Deviantart and I don't know it >.>; then again, I never needed to use custom thumbnails... and DA faqs aren't being helpful.

PLEASE FELLOW DEVIANTS SHARE YOUR SUPERIOR KNOWLEDGE

It occurred to me that some new (or even old, who knows!) viewers might go take a peek at my ASoIaF gallery after having seen HBO's Game of Thrones tv adaptation. Guys, you're welcome! But keep in mind that all my ASoIaF/GoT fanart is based on book canon and therefore it's potentially FULL OF SPOILERS, either in the art itself or in the description/comments. Enter at your own risk.

...I feel all tingly and warm inside, I'm not gonna lie :) Which means, go for it if you want! - I'm posting them on the internet to be seen, after all.  Just please, please, follow the basic netiquette and leave the source intact. Tumblr has implemented a "source" box in its editor, and if you use the bookmarklet it automatically sets up the source for you. Crediting is courtesy and costs nothing :)

(Oh, and I can see the reason for deleting the "via XYZ" captions in the post if you like completely textless image posts, but if you actually take the time to delete the source and the click-through link? well, that's quite a dick move, man.)

In other news, the A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones tv series is just around the corner! As a long time fan of the book I'm half anticipating, half dreading it - judging from previews, teasers, leaked scripts, there are some things I'm quite excited about and others I don't really care for, but I'll wait and see to actually make a judgment. Though to be honest the feeling of anticipation for the tv series isn't nearly as big as the one for A Dance with Dragons finally having a release date. I think I let out such a high pitched sound when I read the news, only dogs could hear it  :nirvana:

Happy new year folks! Yesterday I finished uploading my 2010 sketchbook art so I guess I can discard my "010" signature brush, lol.

Usually New Year's resolutions aren't my thing, but it looks like this year I'm making some. One of those is to open commissions again; feel free to poke me if I don't! As I said, I don't have an easy time with resolutions (but in the end, who does?).

See ya soon!

So, are we excited for the upcoming Game of Thrones series (aka the HBO series based on A Song of Ice and Fire) or ARE WE? Jim at the official blog has kindly featured my "Laughing Hound" piece alongside a pastel portrait of Jaime by Joanne Renaud. Whee! This actually happened a few days ago but then I left for a mini-holiday in Stuttgart and didn't find the time to brag about it report the news here.

I also got myself the new ASoIaF calendar by Ted Nasmith. Most of the pictures, all illustrating Westerosi castles, can be previewed at his site, but I'm glad I got the real thing. I can't believe it's all gouache D: I don't know about your experience but gouache was the go-to painting technique in elementary and middle school for me, so perhaps I made the subconscious assumption that it's kids' paint while acrylics and oils are for grownups. LOL I OBVIOUSLY KNOW NOTHING.

In non-ASoIaF news, I've seen Deathly Hallows pt. 1. I liked it! I've been unimpressed with the Potter movies since OotP, not to say I actively disliked them, but they sort of didn't leave any lasting impression on me. I think that DH, while staying generically faithful to the book, had more of a... creative feel to it? I really liked the direction and editing (aside from some moments in the action scenes which looked a bit confusing), and it was well acted. Now I'm looking forward for part 2 to keep up with the expectations :)

(and yeah, I jumped on the Scabior bandwagon. He basically looked like a dandy!hobo mix between Richard and Schneider from Rammstein, I mean, it's beyond my control)

I... don't really like this layout change :/

Perhaps I'll get used to it over time, but let me tell you, the new way pics are resized kinda sucks. They're all pixelly and crammed near to the top, which is not an improvement in my book.

So, after one of those killer migraines of mine that kept me in bed and off the internet for 24 hours, today I got off the bed before 6 AM just to find my Google Reader feeds flooded with the news that Frank Frazetta has died at 82. Definitely not the kind of news one wants to wake up to - I know he lived a long and successful life, and was essentially retired; still, it was like hearing of a beloved old teacher that had passed away. I think it's telling that pretty much all of the comic artists I follow via blog posted a small tribute to Frank; he wasn't just an amazing artist on his own account, his work makes you want to pick up a pencil yourself and draw something awesome. He may be gone, but his legacy lives on.

He is also the author of one of my favorite statements on art:

"This is the way I feel about art: art is not painting and it's not drawing - it's total effect, it's hitting people right between the eyes."

Speaking of heroes... I also saw Iron Man 2. I liked, though not as much as the first, and I think they should have expanded on Mickey ROurke's character a little more. Now I'm excited for Thor though!

I just wanted to point you at this entry by alohalilo aka the incomparable Chris Sanders. "You're a former Disney artist, you CAN'T draw topless girls!" (I'm paraphrasing). Oh the lolz.

This, and I just wanted to change the journal entry. How are you all?

Breaking the hiatus for a moment just to tell you that I've set up an auction at help_haiti for a fanart piece. I had been planning on doing a charity commission as soon as I'm out of Angouleme Hell (which means by the end of this week), but I just found out about the project, so I joined it there. Auctions end in a couple of days, so hurry up if you want to purchase and/or offer something!

D'oh, only now I realized that my pageviews have hit the 100k wall! I know the tradition requires a celebration via kiriban or something but that caught me totally off guard. I'll think of something but meanwhile, just let me say THANK YOU ALL, GUYS, for all the deviantwatches, the +favs, or just for dropping by in these years. I promise I'll update with some new art asap :)

Cheers!

I often like to say that art is like sports: part of it is talent, but the rest is all about practice and keeping your creative muscles in good shape. Then, I am also unrepentantly lazy, so I need extra motivation... challenges and stuff (other than professional deadlines) always help, but today I'd like to put Michael Nobbs' 75 ways to draw more project in the spotlight. "75 ways..." is simply a booklet you can download for free from here: blog.michaelnobbs.com/2009/04/… It lists 75 easy exercises to get you to draw more (duh!). I just printed it... now let's see if I can keep up with that, lol.

Another project I joined on Flickr (although I ended up slacking) is Make something cool every day www.flickr.com/groups/1012163@… , where the goal is to post some art (illustration, design, photography, everything is fair game) every day. There's lots of talented people posting there and just looking around in the group is a great inspiration.

Last but not least, HP-199 has invited me to share my canon-based HP art for his Harry Potter Companion site hpcompanion.com/. I suggest you go take a look at the project because it's really impressive and - incredibly for such a big and well established fandom - as far as I know HP didn't have a comprehensive fanmade companion yet; I especially appreciate that it doesn't shy away from pointing at the occasional inconsistencies, because being a fan doesn't mean you have to leave critique out of the door :) My profile at the site is here: hpcompanion.com/artists/pojypo…

That's all folks, hope to update with some real art soon :)

Just a head's up from ktshy's journal:

Virus alert guys! Beware posts on your walls saying anything along the lines of "funny pic HERE" or "I've seen your art HERE" I don't know what happens exactly but apparently it's a page wrecking virus made by some looser hacker LOOSER, and I've had about ten posts on my wall from different deviants with the exact same message of "To see a funny pic click HERE" (or something to that effect.) So better safe than sorry, flag as spam folks! DO NOT CLICK!!! (Sauce: ktshy.deviantart.com/journal/2…)

I didn't get that kind of spam myself, but I guess it's just sensible to spread the word. Better safe than sorry. ETA: I got a couple of those messages today and marked them as spam, apparently there's this bot which hacks existing accounts and uses them to post the virus comments. READ THIS NEWS ARTICLE for info on how to take action against the bot: news.deviantart.com/article/70…

And I guess it's time for an upgrade on my rule #1 - NO ART THEFT: I am okay if you REFERENCE my art, but you MUST credit me with a link to Pojypojy and to the original piece. Same if you want to color/alter anything. It's just basic netiquette, guys. My my, if I waited a little longer it would have been a year since the last update... I tend to forget this thing has a journal feature as well, lol. I also know that the art sale I promised didn't come - I *will* get around to do it... eventually. It's just that in the last year I've been working a lot - including both a job as a librarian and my first "real" assignments as a comic artist... Which I'd rather not share here as they probably break a bazillion of Deviant's rules. Check out ultd.blogspot.com or my Carbonmade portfolio if you want to take a peek at what I've been up to. I've decided to keep this account for (mostly) fanart and stuff like HEY LOOK MY DESKTOP WALLPAPER IT HAS NAKED MEN ON IT! W00T! XDDDD

And as they say around here, if we don't see each other again before Christmas... happy holidays and a happy new year!

Lol, I got on this roll of making portrait for the cast of Lost - I'm not going to do all of them, just my favorites... and until I grow tired of the game. Too bad in Italy we're only halfway through season 3 ç_ç so please, NO SPOILERS, kthnxbai.

- - -

I am also running out of space in my room, which means something has to go - and part of this something is old art. So get ready for an art sale coming soon on this page & Livejournal - prices are going to be low (+shipping fees), I just want to get rid of the stuff without actually throwing it away - I've thrown away a lot of old drawings already ;-)

So stay tuned if you're interested!

- - -

My paid account has expired - it's been good until it last, but I don't think it's really necessary for the way I used Deviantart. Anyway, thanks again to Before-I-Sleep, you've been a sweetie!

I also added a list of the resources I use, because I'm so lazy I don't feel like taking notes everytime I use a certain texture or brush. So the precious resource makers are going to be listed here, in the journal.

All for now! bye bye!
